Do Beautiful People Tend to Be Smarter?

I think there is a logic to this, but it is not absolute of course.
I think the operative word here is "tend".

I suppose there could be a link, due to the quality of genes in looks and brains. However, I don't find that to be true in the US for some reason, where people are dumbed down and ugly people who have to look deeper into the dissatisfaction of their lives, ask the big questions, and seek alternative truth (e.g. Art Bell listeners) are going to be smarter and more freethinking.

you can't define smart

dont get me wrong, you can often tell by someones face if they're a blithering idiot or not

but that doesn't mean that most smart people are also beautiful

the way breeding has gone, if anything we are getting away from this..

i prefer european & russian girls over american women (at least in soviet times) because they didn't have hollow heads
they had more complicated face. they were beautiful in part because their face made them seem smart

lets be honest most people are ugly nowadays and everyone uses make-up and fashion accessories to make themselves seem desirable.

beautiful people often have the potential to be smart. they have high iq's if they had good genes, but that doesn't stop most of them from living and acting like total bimbos.

Beauty is not totally relative. There are universal standards, such as symmetry. We can define it as people who look virile and healthy too. But there definitely is a correlation between beauty and smarts if you take the population as a whole. American women seem to be the exception though, since they are so thrwarted from the natural female nature that renders any correlation defunct.

I think you are right. Many studies have shown that a face considered beautiful or attractive in one culture will rate well in most other cultures.

But the connection between symmetry and attractiveness is highly over rated. This too has been shown in some studies. Good proportion is much more important than symmetry. Having features which are well balanced and in good size proportion to each other makes for an attractive face, even with a fair degree of asymmetry. For example, why is Rumor Willis considered so unattractive in spite of having much higher than average degree of facial symmetry? Its because her chin and jawline are so over sized relative to the rest of her face.

Of course, extreme asymmetry detracts from appearance, sometimes to the point of looking freakish. But the majority of faces (over 85%) have a visibly noticeable degree of asymmetry. As long as its not too severe, it does not have a big impact on attractiveness. There are many very attractive faces with significant asymmetry. Likewise, there are plenty of very symmetric faces which are considered plain or even ugly.
