I was talking to a colleague last night, an Australian young man who just transferred here from Cebu. We shared a lovely bottle of Barbera and had an interesting conversation about those foreigners who are stuck here in the Philippines, meaning they can't leave or won't leave for fear of not being able to come back.

As you probably know, here in the Philippines there is a visa ban on foreigners coming in and locals going out. On one side, the situation is pretty dire for non-BPO expats like me and this particular colleague, since our establishments (food & hospitality) are either closed or running at minimal capacity.

On another, sunnier side, we agreed that foreigners living in the Philippines right now have a "double-whammy" advantage of:

• being in much smaller number, since many have left the country or will be unable to enter, which means we are a hotter commodity for the local girls
• having quite a lot of free time in their hands, sometimes with half or full pay (as it is in our case), which means we have more time for dating and fun.

Nightlife here in Manila has been severely affected by the quarantine schemes, with very few bars allowed to stay open past 8 PM and no later than 10 PM. This might actually be an advantage for a casual date, as the bar early closure is a perfect excuse to bring your girl to your own place for "more wine".

Is there any of you guys currently living abroad, unable to go back, and actually enjoying the scarcity situation and the free/idle time? I am curious!

As a bit of an eye candy, this is K, the girl I am seeing at the moment. She is a gorgeous half-Japanese who works at a resort near mine.

They looked very white and Eurasian. The hottest you will ever see in Manila! You should go there and hang out at 4pm or 5pm when they are leaving work! See if you can chat them up or meet them at the bars or shops in the area there.

I have been to Ortigas a couple of times but it was at Internations-organised meet-ups and I couldn't tell which ones were "native" of the area and which ones were living elsewhere.

But generally yes, you see a lot of hotties in Manila. It's the capital after all, it's were all the wealthier people are and it polarises a lot of the best and brightest.

The hotel/resort cluster in Pasay is a pretty huge and cosmopolitan community in its own right. It's been in "suspended mode" for a few months now but I keep hoping the good times will be back once the casino and hotels reopen and those Chinese, Japanese and Korean gangsters come back

By "hotties" you mean professional models, or just very pretty girls who work in an office? I know Ortigas is home to the Asian Development Bank, which is a world-class banking institution and, I can imagine, attracts quite a lot of the tall, smokey hot types, and not just from the Philippines. At one of the two Internations meet-ups I had in Ortigas, there were 2 very pretty and tall blonde girls, one Russian, one Israeli. They both worked for ADB.

Basically any city of Metro Manila that has a CBD (Central Business District) will have its well dressed, good looking people walking around, as that's where you will find the large corporations, the multinationals, etc. Ortigas is a CBD and so is a large part of Makati and Bonifacio Global City, which is shared between Makati and Taguig.

There are also other posh hotspots that are not officially CBDs but have first-world estates full of modern offices. Quezon City has Eastwood and Ayala TechHub, near UP Diliman. Around where I work the Pasay City Government is building a new CBD called Bay City. The lion share is still casinos, resorts and hotels but, from what I read, there will be plenty of new offices and top-notch residential areas soon.

And then there's New Clark City, very close to Angeles City. If it looks even half as good as the picture below, it will be the Makati of the future.



In any of these places you can find hot girls who are not model by profession but are definitely "up there" in terms of looks.

Whether they as approachable as the average Filipina from the province looking for a foreign man, I don't think they are. From what I have seen they are harder to attract, chase and get. Also to consider, Filipinas usually marry young, late twenties at the latest, so most of them will probably have boyfriends or husbands and not be very open to flirting or being flirted on.

I think one way to look for them and talk to them is probably at one of the many social gatherings they attend. Office parties, product presentations, trade awards ceremonies, friends' and colleagues' birthdays, baby showers, despedidas etc. I have personally organised dozens of these events at my hotel and saw countless of these kinds of beautiful people. Like I said, they sound classy and educated but that doesn't mean they are impossible to get.
