Please recommend a good English textbook for my friend

A friend of mine in Beijing wants me to teach him English. He currently attends classes at Wall Street English (which has a very poorly designed curriculum) but would like to learn more. He believes his level is equivalent to a third or fourth grade student in America. Can any experienced English teachers recommend a textbook? Thanks.

He would like to learn NAE (North American English), not BE.
