This is a good question, I already consider to leave this forum soon as there is almost nothing anymore left over which is interesting for me - there are only troll-comments from PAG, some religious drivel, conspiracy nonsense etc.

Next month I will be in Thailand, with a somewhat weak access to WiFi, a good timing to leave HA.

This HA-Forum is nothing like 10 years ago, where there was really frequent talk going on about foreign countries, living costs, visa for longstay, also women of course...

It is not Winstons fault that the mindset of this forum changed over the time, all forums are declining - but I do not understand why PAG is still allowed to post here and to annoy other members.

What is so special about this guy with his fake-websites?

Well I would assume that at your age, you wouldn't be invested in these kind of platforms anymore anyway. I'm only 36 and I find a lot of media just boring as hell now. Barely anyone I even relate to that use them so I just blow off steam sometimes but I haven't really shot at anyone on here in an argumentative way in a long while so. There's that. As for Pag, you can just put the guy on Foe list and you wont see his comments at all if that makes any sense. There aren't a lot of people around anymore, I mean hell if Wintson turned it into a religious forum like what his face did lol then he would attract a lot of people. But I wouldn't go down that route.

I never did, personally. Never had such a strong involvement or put in the degree of effort @Voyager1 has... I can't say you're wrong. The forum has been on free-fall for at least a good 4 years. Those who had to make their life-sized choices about moving abroad, finding love, romance or fun abroad had ample opportunity to do so. For those who are still interested, the forum is a royal mess but, thanks to the Google-powered search facility, old threads and gem of information, advice and knowledge can still be dug out with relative ease.

Must say that, like a polluted seashore, the amount of garbage and toxic stuff is unbearable. I would guess that only the few old-time members, like you, me, MrMan, MarcosZ, House, know that this place still holds some value by virtue of its archives. If a new member were to take a peek in here, they would probably be discouraged by looking at the sheer amount of trollage, childish flame wars, unrelated contents. Last but not least, despite whatever Winston might say about it, it's f*cking 2023 and the site design looks like the place has been on mothballs since 2010.

We all know that Winston has been using this forum as his private orchard for his updates on conspiracy and esoteric topics. Nothing wrong with it, but then the "Happier Abroad" message, which is already at its last inch, ends up further snowed under and even harder to find, let alone appreciate.

Like all orchards, this online commmunity could be a lot more useful and enjoyable, for old-schoolers and new members alike, if Winston decided to remove weeds and give it a nice, thorough clean-up, first and foremost in terms of contents (I guess at least 30% of the posts are trolling, personal/group attacks and other idiotic topics), then in terms of design and brand.

Time permitting, I still enjoy lurking on forums about masculinity, finding quality women and a healthier societal fit. I read forums both in English and Italian language. Yes, we have trouble in the Bel Paese, too!

Winston's take on HA, as shown here, might be close to an end, yet the situation with all of the above themes is getting worse and worse.

People need information, advice and inspiration about trying, or even imagining, alternative, out-of-the-box lifestyles now even more than 10-15 years ago, when this forum was created. I know that for sure, and it's a pity HA cannot measure up with his golden years (2010-2017 I would say), and it's fading away like a ghost of its former self.

Anyway, all of this to say, @Yohan...it will definitely be sad to see you leave. Sad but not surprising, not a tiny bit.

Well I believe all forums are identical a like except this one is special in it's own way. You don't have annoying lame ass leftist running the show like they do with 99% of all the other damn platforms where anything you say is "trans/homophobic" or "bigot" and people are just forced to kiss their liberal asses and tolerate everything they throw in your damn face like you have no rights of your own and aren't allowed to have your own principals. So you have to agree with being down with everything leftist and shit.

But hell Wintson can always be like Roosh and just ban the few people that's left and then there would be no one or anyone posting here at all I guess. This forum needs reform urgently.

About myself, I also need a time of recovery and timing is farely good from around 25th of April up to end of June. I will be on a trip with my wife in Kyushu (Saga and Oita) area and later on visit my second home in Thailand. Also I want to visit South Korea for a few days again.

In Juli and August I will be in Japan in my home in Okayama...I will see what to do, I cannot say now.

You are not wrong with what you say. Yes, I am living in Japan since more about 45 years, but I have been out of Japan also frequently every year, to Thailand to my second home, visiting friends in Malaysia, being with my fosterdaughter in Philippines, some sightseeing in Korea, Cambodia...etc.

Why using internet-forums? First of all as a foreigner living in Japan, I use rarely English, and since my retirement not at all, so it is a good exercise for me, I consider English as my language no.4 and language knowledge will be forgotten quickly without frequent exercise.

Still about 10 or 15 years ago, internet was useful to meet new people and to make new friends, but unfortunately not anymore.

You ask me why no pictures about Japan? Let me explain. I had my own homepage with pictures and guestbook at that time running, but later on it was invaded by trolls, pictures were downloaded and defaced, guestbook contained only insults and spam mail, also death wishes, even threatening hacker-mail asking for money etc.

So what to do? After my retirement and moving out of Tokyo I shut down my website.
Now I send pictures of my family and area around us only to personally known friends by email etc.
There were many pictures in my former homepage about Japan and my family, my trips to Thailand and Philippines with my Filipina fosterdaughter, about radioamateur activity, about my short trips to nearby Japanese mountains using my small 4WD car, about motorcycles and visiting various temples etc. I shared everything, but now not anymore.

I know it is a bit a sad situation, but what can you do if everything is immediately misused by internet trolls.

Happier abroad could offer some option to upload pictures for display, but Winston said a while ago there is not enough disc space available to a reasonable price for creating a picture/video gallery.
