Would any of you want to go? Talk about going abroad lol
As crazy as it sounds. It would be very interesting to see how this all pans out.

An ambitious project to establish a human colony on Mars has attracted applications from tens of thousands of would-be astronauts, just two weeks after applications opened.

The mission, a private venture by the Dutch non-profit organization Mars One, aims to send a crew to the Red Planet in 2022 – and, due to the physiological change in the human body after a stay on Mars, there’d be no coming back. That hasn’t deterred people, though: so far, over 78,000 people have applied to become one of Mars’ first immigrants (the company is expecting 500,000 applicants by the time applications close on August 31). “This is turning out to be the most desired job in history,â€￾ says Bas Lansdorp, co-founder of Mars One.

Day-to-day life on Mars will be no picnic: The organization says that the daily routine on the planet would involve construction work on the colony (installing greenhouses, for example), maintenance of the settlement’s systems and research into Mars’ climate and geological history–all in an inhospitable environment with unbreathable air and an average temperature in the planet’s mid-latitudes of around -58 degrees Farenheit.

But Mars One says it is not looking for applicants with specific skills, such as a science degree, that might be useful during an interplanetary posting. Instead, they are looking for people who “have a deep sense of purpose, willingness to build and maintain healthy relationships, the capacity for self-reflection and ability to trust.â€￾ They also want volunteers who are “resilient, adaptable, curious, creative and resourceful.â€￾ Candidates will receive a minimum of eight years training before leaving Earth, the company says.

“Gone are the days when bravery and the number of hours flying a supersonic jet were the top criteria for selection. Now, we are more concerned with how well each astronaut works and lives with the others–and for a lifetime of challenges ahead,â€￾ said Norbert Kraft, a former Senior Research Associate at NASA and Chief Medical Director for Mars One in a statement published on Mars One’s website.

Candidates hailing from over 120 countries (although the vast majority are from the U.S.) uploaded a video to Mars One’s website explaining why they’re suitable for the mission. Kyle, a 21-year-old grocery store clerk from the U.S., says he wants to be “an explorer and pioneer at the forefront of history.â€￾ Steven, a 43-year-old American who works in electronics, has even higher hopes for the mission: “I would like to go to Mars… to discover new life,â€￾ he says.

In addition to people skills, successful applicants must be good fundraisers too: Mars One plans to raise much of the mission’s $6 billion estimated cost through a reality TV show following the applicants as they undergo preparations for the one-way trip to Mars. They’ve got a little way to go yet, though: as of April 29, the money raised through donations and merchandise stood at $84,121.

But the way it looks now, it's probably going to be a sausage fest. Based on the applicants on the site, it's mostly men. You may have to smuggle a few chics with you.

It's a sausage fest because women are more down to earth and know exactly that they are having the upper hand in western countries

They don't feel the need to build a mirage of a better place.

Males are the ones drived to conquer, discover, create and i would be pretty sure they are more unhappy about their lives here.

Makes this Mars travel application to a random Thai male lol and let's see if he would be ready to take the trip haha.

And this project is quit entertaining but his success probability are very small.
They are others manned mission to Mars planned who are more realistic.

Of course it's mostly men. Since when do chicks take risks to build anything from scratch?
Once it's made livable, they'll be all too eager to show up and demand "improvements", though, bitching about pin-up posters, and using up all the hot water, etc.

My cousin was on the navy and he said it was full of hard up men who couldn't wait to get to port so they could do other shit. He also said the few females on board were treated like princesses even if the were ugly as shit. Now imagine being on an off world colony where men far outnumber women and think about having to travel for years to get back home again if ever. You'd either end up masturbating into your hand every night or fighting over other walking hard ons to get to the few available females.

Sounds more like punishment to me. No thanks.

Actually I change my mind. I would never go there. You guys go lol.

Throughout history every great civilization was build by slaves' blood & tears ... who is to say after a few 100,000 people go there they won't be enslaved like indentured labourers to build the new Empire. All rights relinquished after departure from Earth, right'.

Romans, Egyptians, Incas, Mayans, Aztecs, Arab Empire, British Empire ... they all had the same plan, same strategy ... it was just executed 100's of years apart. Is that coincidence or did they have the same Game-Plan? Divide-Enslave-Conquer. Nothing can stop it from happening again. Man-power is needed. My ancestors were duped the same way to come to the caribbean; free transport, free accomdation, better life, etc ... they came to build the caribbean after african slavery was abolished & weren't much different from slaves because salary & conditions were bad.

Who's funding this idea?

The sad, & somewhat ironic, thing is that, if they manage to pull this off in the first place, humans will only end up jacking up the new planet in the exact same ways that we've done to Earth.
