One of my freshman year college courses

One of my classes in college annoys me a bit. The class itself is about Interpersonal Communication. The chapters in the book are mostly about maintaining eye contact when talking, body language and the way to approach people and situations. The class in of itself seems to be pretty easy and relaxed, except for the part where the teacher lets it turn into something reminiscent of a talk show. When we go over different things related to communication, several people in the class like to go off on a tangent about what annoys them or what it is to their liking. Then they get responses from others in the class and it turns into some sort of a debate between all of them. The funny thing is that the teacher lets it go on without interfering for a good 10-15 minutes at a time.
First off, when you start talking about relationships and other people and voice your opinion, there will be people who may disagree. What makes you such an expert? Ah? Secondly, the class is supposed to be about going over class material and lecture by our professor. How does all that take a backseat to all this arguing about dating and relationships where everyone just talks their ass off and states their subjective opinion?
Is this what an introductory college course should be like? Is there something wrong with me?
I just sit there and try to take notes on what little info our teacher covers without telling anybody off. What is wrong with all them? Any ideas?

Oh God.... I am glad that I'm not in that class because I would have a lot to say. I'd mainly talk about how western women suck at communicating like mature adults.

Exactly, Ghost. It was run by a woman and it was a required class in my programme.

It's crazy how all these women and manginas and what not would just go on these rants about what they thought was acceptable and what was not in a relationship and it was all good.

Demented-ass people, I tell ya!
