Finding short term accomodation? Abnb sucks
Im finding many of the short term rentals want a minimum 1 month stay to sometimes a big 1 year stay commitment
Tried Airbnb, but the verification process is a giant epic pain in the a**, and I can never get it to work, otherwise it seems to have some good deals
Very curious where you guys end up staying? I tend to put my hotel stays on a credit card rather than paying cash, which seems to work well for me . Ive done the budget backpacking part on my 1st and 2nd trip, now i tend to enjoy a bit more luxury and a better standard. Any tips appreciated

Where are you traveling? Airbnb is a goldmine in EE. Crazy not to make the effort to get out to work. Paying by credit card a mistake, IMO, due to possibility of fraud and difficulty of contesting charges while traveling. I've never used a credit card in fifteen years of constant travel, other than internet transactions with big corporations (amazon for kindle books, Google for apps, airbnb, major airlines, etc). I always pay hotels in cash.

Yes if only i could signup to the damn thing he-he
Not paying by credit is a bigger mistake IMO. You are protected from fraud by your issuer, and its super easy to contest charges. You are missing out on one of the biggest benefits and remedies of western civilization which you can use to great advantage if you know what I know

What exactly is preventing you from getting verified? I managed it sitting in an airport on dodgy wifi. I don't remember it being anything special.
Lot better deals on airbnb than Booking.com, particularly in Europe (although I don't know how that clashes with the 'luxury' you want, some of them can be inconvenient if you don't know the area/what you're getting yourself into, as nearly everyone advertises 'Great Location!' even when they are miles from the things you want).

I almost always talk to locals where I am going and I get great deals that way.livefreeordie wrote:Im finding many of the short term rentals want a minimum 1 month stay to sometimes a big 1 year stay commitment

I was just in a new country to me for 3 months and the cheapest ABB was EUR600 a month for a very small living space.
Going through a local I got an 80sqm apartment that was well above mid tier but not quite luxury for EUR400 a month for 3 months.
Currently I am living in a hotel in another new country to me and I got this one through booking.com.
I could have gotten a place by the seaside but the embassy I need to talk to is in the capital...
I am currently having a USD20 competition for the guy who can pick which city I am in! LOL!
It is the bragging rights. Not the money.

Is it sofia bulgaria, or zagreb croatia?
Finally got the damn thing verified, after 3 attempts to connect to facebook ( my other browser prevented popups )
Some great tips there though, although im finding many local places want a long term lease, which is a bit hard when nutting things out on initial scouting trips. Next time when im staying longer ill definitely ask a lot of locals about places to stay
