Japanese and Filipinos the "cool" "laidback" Asians compared to other Asians? (Chill vs Strict Asians)

Post by Archibault »

Hey guys,

So my experience with most Asians(I assume they been Asian Americans and Asian Canadians) are that most of them are very controlling, strict type of people as well as "insular" in that they don't mingle with others.

I found Asian men to be very critical of themselves and others. Always looking for flaws criticize. This include Asian-Canadians. They seem to be "short fuse" type of people who get easily upset.

While Asian women to be have high materistic standards, close off and be in "interview mode." Each time I've dealt with they were always asking me tons of questions like how much money I make. And try to find inconsitencies in anything I say.

I just never knew why some guys have "Yellow Fever" it seems like they are not a fun crowd.

However, lately I have been meeting Japanese people as well as watching Japanse Youtubers but they seem as much more relatable Asian. The women also seem much more pleasant. I have seem the also good experience with some Filipinas.

How would you guys rank the different Asians from chill to strict.

I read something about 'tight' versus 'loose' cultures. In tight cultures, people are expected to conform narrowly to social norms, without much wiggle room. Loose cultures are looser about this.

I think Filipinos and Indonesians are from 'loose' cultures, probably partly because partly there are many tribes in each culture bound together by a national identity, so they have to be tolerant about certain norms.

My impression is that Korea is very 'tight' in this regard. I would imagine Japanese are the same way, and to a lesser extent Han Chinese.

Indonesians and Filipinos tend to be friendly, laid back, and jovial, with individual variation of course depending on personality. There is also variation between people-groups within those countries. In general, Indonesians try to make other people feel comfortable be it in social interactions or as guests. I get the impression that Filipinos are the same way. So they tend to be polite and welcoming. In Indonesia, the Javanese are probably very much this way. They tend to hide their feelings, unless you offend them so much over a period of time and they build up resentment. (This can happen unintentionally if they just don't like something about you, depending on the person.) In Indonesia, there are people-groups that tend to be more forthright, like the Batak, and some of the Indonesian Chinese, who tend to be more ready to tell you what they think.

If could be that Japanese-Americans or Japanese-Canadians, having been exposed to two cultures are more flexible and 'cooler' from your perspective.
