I am now staying at the Ambassador Occidental. There are lots of Russians here and then, I also saw some Orthodox Jews walking around in full Jewish regalia. Amazing!
The Dominican immigration forms are written in Spanish, English, Italian and Russian. The Russian language is heard in lots of places. I was really surprised, but the trend will be the Russians will be traveling more and more as they are awash in oil money.
I saw a Russian family with lots of blond kids sitting at one table, and I asked the Dominican waiters if they knew what nationality those people were. The waitress looked at them and concluded:
Americanos!
I asked the cook what nationality he thought those Russians were:

They still can't tell.

How long did you stay there or are you still there? How much does you hotel cost? How do prices compare to the Phil?

Are the girls as good looking as the Phil? Do the young ones go out with older guys. What are you seeing?

I was there 8 days. Two star hotels are some $30-35 a night. Filipina girls are way prettier. Girls do go out with older guys. No problem.

It's funny that even though I've been to DR, I wasn't sure where it's located geographically. So I just went outside to check with the trike driver who hangs out in front of my hotel and he tells me that the Dominican Republic is located on the western side of the island of Hispaniola which in turn is located just southwest of Cuba. Hope that helps.

I really enjoyed reading your recent reports and thread on DR and getting your perspective on it. I'm sure glad u finally visited there I also posted a similar thread comparing DR to Phils after my trips to both places late last year and into 2013. Here is the link:

When I was in Santo Domingo, I also spent a lot of time in Zona Colonial and lived in a nice hotel right along El Calle Conde for just 1,200 Pesos a night including wifi, cable tv, Internet, refrigerator, and free water.

As you would expect, I don't agree with you about the looks of girls in DR vs. Phils. I saw a lot more gals in DR who inspired me physically than in Phils, lol.

I was also surprised about your comment on Domicanos seeming intellectual (or something to that effect). Many of the locals I met struck me more as being party people, who live to have fun and like to joke and banter over food and drink or go dancing more than having serious and protracted discussions about serious topics, baseball being the exception lol. Some of the more serious types I met there happened to be Haitians.

Some of the Santo Domingo girls I met didn't seem to like Boca Chica at all and had no interest in visiting there (even one who is a former poster here). It kind of has the same reputation as Pattaya in Thailand or Angeles in Phils even tho some local families and mixed groups do go there for quick week-end beach getaways. Sosua is kinda like that too but at least the beach there is nicer and less spoiled. Touts are much worse in Boca Chica too.

Anyway, I hope we can keep these DR threads alive and that more guys from the forum will go down, explore, and report on their experiences and impressions.

DR is a completely different place to the PI. I was thinking about going on a combined DR/Colombia trip earlier this winter but never went.

There was like a 50+ page thread on RooshV about hanging out in DR.

You've been to Puerto Rico as well?

Keep up the reports. I'm enjoying them. As we all know, if you were to actually spend a year there, your views might change. The DR is also a small place. I'd imagine it's a good place to spend short periods of time, but that it might get boring after awhile.

The DR is supposed to be a good place to party though.

P.S. I believe that there are more light skinned girls in Santiago.

Nope. Most of them are dark up there in Santiago.

I beg to differ. It's not like gals in Santiago look like Slavs, Scandinavians, or anything like that lol. But I did observe a noticeable change when I took the roughly 2.5 hour trip from Santo Domingo to Santiago. I observed a much higher percentage of very light skinned mulattos and those who would be considered Caucasian in Santiago than in Santo Domingo. I also felt less like a gringo in the former in spite of my white skin lol. And locals I talked to are for the most part aware of this difference. Reputation wise, girls in region around Santiago are considered snobbier and perhaps more materialistic by many of the people I talked to than those around the capital (SD).

Yes, Winston, the guys here are right. None of us as international people should openly admit that we don't know where countries are located. We, of all people, are supposed to know where they are. If on the off- chance we don't, we should not shame ourselves in front of public and are better of if we quietly do a google/wikipedia and youtube search.

Now, as far as the girls go, de gustibus non est disputandum as they say in Latin. I saw some very nice looking ones but SE Asians are more up my alley. But it's just me.

As far as the intellectualism goes, after having talked to numerous very common people such a drivers, hair dressers, tour guides and just folks in the streets ( in Spanish - I finished my BA in Puerto Rico with Spanish being the medium of instruction there), they seem to have a much higher level of general knowledge than Filipinos- again I talk to Filipinos in Tagalog. My Tagalog is also of literary variety. So, I was able to compare.

I am also not talking about what they like to do/talk about but what they know as compared to an average Filipino of the same social class. The latter have an American style educational system which is narrowly specialized, while the former have a more rounded Spanish/Euro styled one. But that is my impression based on my observations received through languages of those two countries, and these are always anecdotal and do not serve as absolute measures of the general IQ.

I guess so. But I prefer to act human and humble and show that I don't know things sometimes. I prefer honesty. If I know something, I'll say it. If I don't, I'll admit it too. No one knows everything, so no one is expected to know everything. I never said I knew where every country was, only where some countries are. So no biggie. Besides, when I asked it, perhaps others were wondering where DR was too. So maybe I did them a favor as well. lol

There is no 'diversity' in the DR. All people belong to the same culture- Dominican culture. All are Dominicans. And more than half are really black. It's such a shock to meet black people on the street where you ask them for directions and they grab your hand and start asking you questions and then want to make friends with you and they speak Spanish like everyone else with a Dominican accent and act the same. There is no acting black or acting white, there is no "black nation", there is a Dominican nation. Is this such a hard aspect to grasp? Why can't the US be the same way?
I am sure that at Dominican universities they do not have Black student unions. Black is a color here, not a nation or a race. There is no jive being spoken.

There was one Dominican president who said a famous phrase: "anybody who steps on the Dominican soil is a Dominican".

You sit on a bus squeezed in by all these black people but they have no ill feelings towards you, they are very polite, no chip on thier shoulders. Today I met a girl who looked very much like a South African Khoisan. I started talking to her and asking her about her ethnic origin( an American habit). She looked at me kind of strange and just said: I am Dominicana,that is my origin.

Duh!

On my last and third visit to Philippines very recently, I took my rose tinted glasses off and took a dispassionate look at the place and deliberately concentrated on the negatives, and even though I have a lot of affection for the people, I kept asking myself whether I could live there long term. I had some serious doubts. If I could somehow solve the availability of lovely and loving females then perhaps a place like Dominican Republic would be a nice compromise.

The thing is I spent decades studying Philippine languages and have many cultural connections and the Malay heritage in the RP is very profound. It is well worth studying and getting into and is its own rewards. The Philippines has amazing folklore, poetry and music which is hidden from the common eye. That is what holds me there plus friends. Why not just have enough money to be in both places?

For instance, I went to the Mexican consulate here in San Antonio to get some information for vacationing in Mexico. The first consular employee who came up to assist me was a woman. She asked me what my nationality was, and I told her African American. The lady asked me if I had my AFRICAN passport (the lady actually thought that I was from Africa). I reminded her that I am 100% American (citizen). Her boss summoned her for some reason, and this man came up there. I have talked to him on a few occasions during pasts visits to the consulate, and he asked me the same question. As I tried to explain to him that I was African-American, the man politely/respectfully cut me off and said, "You're American". I was thinking that race, to a Mexican, does not matter to the extent that Americans view it. For instance, a citizen of the Philippines is a Filipino, regardless of race or species. I even think that if Worf was a legal citizen of the Philippines, he would be considered a Filipino (despite not being ethnic or a genetic Filipino, nor even a human from this planet).

Like I've said before, you're American outside of America; You have/must learn that only White Americans make minorities hyphenate who they are and its an identifier as the OTHER.

White people the world over are seen as Americans or even Native Americans as many Eastern Europeans see them. I got into this with the folks over on RUA, Slavic women don't have command of the English language unless they spent time in a country that speaks English.

Ladslav White Supremacy in America forces Black Student Unions and other things like "Black Owned". They never wanted us to integrate. In fact the Nation of Islam and Black Panthers wanted us to live in our own areas but be treated as equals enforced by the United States Government.

I am not offended by that because its a legacy of an unfinished Civil Rights Movement. MLK was the most powerful negro in America according to J Edgar Hoover, can you name somebody since? I thought so.

DR is a mono culture, but so is much of Latin and Central America. In fact immigration is such a sore topic in Western Europe because non-academics don't think those not of European decent are say Germans but something else.

On European Journal, there was a Eastern Europeans who wants to become a Austrian citizen. Current law is 10 years in-country (restricting travel even in the EU), High School level German and $1,000 Euro savings.

Those are the strictest in the EU, but most countries are about the same, 5 years residency, fluent speaker of the native language and some Euros in the bank.

Anyway, Latin America is where its at. Europe is just too expensive and I am not even worried about the currency collapse or any of that stuff.

I may not know sometimes but I can surely look it up, that's what the internet is for.
