T-Mobile Unlimited International Data/Text

Post by momopi »

Prior to posting this, I waited until I received the phone bill to verify that I wasn't being charged for data and text usage overseas.

Upon arrival in Japan and Taiwan, I received this text from T-Mobile on my phone:
"Free T-Mobile Msg: Welcome to Japan. Unlimited text inc with your global coverage. Talk $0.20/min."
"Free T-Mobile Msg: Unlimited web included as part of your global coverage."

With T-Mobile plan:

* Unlimited data and text in 120 countries abroad: http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plan ... tries.html
Note that the free international roaming data is slow. If you want high speed abroad then it will cost extra.

* Free in-flight texting with Gogo (yes you can text on a plane where Gogo service is avail)

* Call and text with WiFi (no need for Skype)
If your smartphone has WiFi call feature, you can use WiFi for phone calls. Otherwise international roaming calls are $0.20/min.

How much have you used this overseas? The reason I ask is that I believe T-Mobile requires that most of your usage be in the US. So while it's a good plan for the visitor, it may not be good for those living abroad.
