Ladislav in Chisinau, Moldova
Ladislav in Chisinau, Moldova
I am now in Chisinau ( pronounced 'key- she- now'), Moldova.
A down and dirty: Just got here today.
A very green place and clean air. Smells of greenery and agriculture. But it's run down. Ala Tijuana basically. It's not dirty or anything but there are lots of potholes on the roads and streets. Everything is very old- looking.
This is the poorest country/capital city in Europe( if you don't count Ukraine in the time of war) and it makes Kiev look rich.
This is a Latin country and not Slavic, so the attitude is different. The guys- are more macho and the girls appear to be more stuck up. I tried to chat some up, and they don't respond well. Local guys act a bit uppetty- a la Italian gwappo- swaggery like. They are also not as willing to get into conversations with strangers.
The language is Romanian on signs everywhere, but Russian is again what you hear the most.
Do I recommend it so far? My feeling is probably not. Ukraine seems to be way better.
Will be here for the next 2 days. I'll try to hit a few clubs and/or parks, etc.

How long is your trip to Moldova for? How many vacation days do you get a year working in Saudi? I've heard mixed reviews on Moldova. I also heard Sophia, Bulgaria is pretty beat up too. Which eastern European countries have you been? Which do you prefer?

Re: Ladislav in Chisinau, Moldova
Was there about 8 years ago and was not impressed. Only spent a week and it was only in the Chisinau, but the vibe I got from people was just unfriendly.
They had some pretty good restaurants and cafes there, but women were not all that attractive, and my friend described them as looking like "Elviras" with sourpuss faces.
The hotel situation was pretty bad. I stayed at the Grand Dedemon which was a sorry excuse for the best hotel in the country. Perhaps now they have a few more choices.
I would be curious if another city would have been better.

Just posted a response, but the computer updated and restarted. The response is gone.
Anyway, the gist of it was: I’ve only been to Russia, Latvia, UA, and now Moldova. Briefly, I was only in Slovakia. I get 6 week-vacation time in Saudi- only one trip with a paid ticket. The rest I have to pay myself.
Yes, the vibe I get here is the same I got in Italy- not very friendly. But I’m only here for 2 more days. Just to check the place out.

Re: Ladislav in Chisinau, Moldova
I remember long time ago, coming from Romania by own car, I was driving over to former USSR, Kishinev - now Moldovia, Chisinau and there was nothing which was causing me to stay longer than two nights in that area. Arriving late night, look around next day, stay another night and moving on next day early morning.
Better in Romania, during summertime near Black Sea Coast, but even anywhere else away, even away from summer season - in the mountain areas, winter makes the scenery very beautiful in Romania, but you have to drive around with your own car - do not expect much about women however.

I don't know what is true with such reports, but I do not recall anything which I could call 'stunning woman' in that area.
For sure however borders along the former USSR are a well-known hideout for many criminals of any kind.

Re: Ladislav in Chisinau, Moldova
Today I discovered a different part of town- this one was richer with lots of strange French/Italian buildings. Also, there were two large parks with wide alleys and churches and fountains. I rented a Segway and rode all around the park.
I also attended a pop music concert in the center of the city.
Looking at the people, I tried to describe their type. Many do look very Roman- just like those statues of patricians in togas. The rest look kine of Sicilian. These people are mostly Romans, no questions. But some also look Slavic and I even asked them if they were of Russian or UA descent and they said that no, they were Moldovans.
There are more young men than young women here, that's for sure, and the girls look pretty smug.
I guess getting a girl here would be as easy as in an Italian neighborhood in NY.
But the food, the music and the parks are great. Also, almost everybody speaks totally flawless Russian and you hear them change from Russian to Romanian all the time.
All the signs are in Romanian and reading it is easy. Just like Spanish.

Lol that happens to you all the time man.ladislav wrote:Just posted a response, but the computer updated and restarted. The response is gone.
At the very least select your text with ctrl+a and do ctrl+c to put it in the background buffer every few minutes, just in case. Then do ctrl+v to paste it if necessary.
If you have longer text, save it on a .txt file.
I've learned this the hard way...
1)Too much of one thing defeats the purpose.
2)Everybody is full of it. What's your hypocrisy?

Better just write in in Word if it is of any reasonable length. It's just too many hoops to jump thru otherwise.

Or use Google docs which will automatically save every time you stop writing.
Disappointing but unsurprising to hear about Moldova. My experience will moldovans (not in Moldova) has been pretty similar. Didn't really know they were Latin though.

-NEWSFLASH-
Everyone only cares to know if you have gotten Laid or Not.
Nobody gives a shit about culture or languages or whatever the f**k else you are blabbing on about.
Have you gotten any p***y yet? There are tons of guys here that only want white girls. So is being in the poorest European country helping you get Laid??????

Re: Ladislav in Chisinau, Moldova
I have not gotten laid. Because it seems that the only way to do it here is by paying for it.
But I have asked around and there are plenty of clubs they say and also, there are some bath houses/ saunas with h.ookers in them.
So, getting laid here means basically doing it for money- paying ho.okers. The prices appear to be from $50 for a short time to several hundred dollars for upscale women here and there.
Everything else would need to be relationship-based. And that would involve time, courtship etc.
Yesterday I went around in a taxi looking for clubs to visit. Guess what? They said it was Monday so they were all closed.

Re: Ladislav in Chisinau, Moldova
Romanian and Russian are spoken at a 50%/50% rate. Their Russian is flawless ( although there is a Latin accent in it)- they switch between the two languages with amazing ease. I speak Spanish and pretty good French so I was able to read 90% of the signs. Romanian is the closest you get to Latin anywhere on earth. So, yes, it's easy to understand.Ghost wrote:I am going to research Moldova. I didn't realize that Romanian is spoken there. Do you speak any Romanian? If I do well in Spanish, would I do well studying Romanian too? .
Agreed. They have no tourist industry to speak of. And every person ( unless he is African or East Asian) is automatically presumed to be a Moldovan and spoken to in Romanian. The people are xeno ( as in stranger- not necessarily foreigner) phobic a bit. They do not take up to just a stranger on the street and do not start easy conversation. There's no sweetness of a Filipino to a porener. But they also don't overcharge or cheat you. In other words, you feel like a citizen there, not as a guest. It sounds a bit closed off, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Well, yes, but their malls are huge and everybody appears well dressed and well fed. Their salary is like 300 a month. You may just work online and make more money than at their school. Although I knew of an Aussie teacher who had taught there.I will look into the language, culture, and TEFL market there. I recall reading it is the poorest country in Europe.
Ukraine is a much better country to look for a woman as in now. There are agencies in UA that cater to that industry, but not many- if any- in Moldova. I talked to the local guys and they said that they meet girls on social networks. Also, many Ukrainians live in Canada and in OH/Illinois but Moldovans have no possible link to America in any way. They were staring at my US passport with a bit of amusement.Probably not the greatest prospect for me, but I'm open-minded. In a more ideal world, I would be able to find a marriageable white woman, though of course this being the real world I don't hold out hope for that
Anyway, there are always many avenues and ways to skin a cat. I do not regret having gone there. If anything, the food and the music was great.

Re: Ladislav in Chisinau, Moldova
PS. Don't make Moldova a special trip if your goal/sole interest is to get laid and/or find a GF or wife, you speak no Russian and are on a short tour. You'll probably not find a GF, and you may get laid, but it'll be a hooker in a sauna or from a strip club.
For those who enjoy a very exotic distant Roman outpost culture and who want to work their way into a very unique way of life, this is Europe's exotic Bhutan or Bali. Also, the food, the music and general ambiance are very interesting.

Many bastards here on HA just want a nice white girl. If the girls from the poorest country in Europe (Moldova) have chicks that are too picky that is a problem.
Even chicks in Moldova are too good for most guys. Make sure to tell the poorest chicks in Europe to go f**k themselves. And for the losers on this forum I recommend getting Yellow Fever and enjoying Asian chicks (in Asia).
