Nice trip report. Rome was interesting but I thought the food was rubbish. I got better pasta in Japan. I like Rome's square pizzas (sold by weight) though!
Rome is full of people trying to rip you off/steal off you. Just go to see the sights, then get the hell out.

I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

Congrats Eurobrat! It seems like you're enjoying yourself quite a bit over there. I 'm going overseas myself sometime in February.
BTW, ThinkDifferent also moved to Italy a while back: I wonder if he can contribute a little bit to this thread since he's currently living there, but he hasn't posted in a while? Have you met him yet Eurobrat? He seems to know a lot about the place since he's married to an Italian women and has lived there for a while now.

Hi Eurobrat - it sounds like you're having an amazing time - just a couple of questions:
1. Was the 12 Euro trip from airport to city on a train/bus? If so, does it run frequently?
2. How can you tell the "good" restaurants? - Surely, the foreigners would make them look identical to Italian ones?
3. Is it expensive to do touristy things like go to Ancient sites, Museums, etc - I guess you can take public transport, but does it take a while to get to know it if you don't speak Italian?
4. How much are your own rooms at hostels as I HATE dormitory beds, but I still want to meet girls at the lounge/pool at hostels.
Thanks

Great report Eurobrat, looking forward to your trip report of Chur in Graubunden canton in Switzerland, sounds like the people there know how to party
, and Switzerland is somewhat insulated as a country so not surprising that some of them have never met an American, and Swiss women can be very elegant, classy and sophisticated from my experience in the country.
Bon voyage!

The Swiss are very introverted, much more so than the Italians. Swiss women are extremely intelligent, and I have already met a few that are studying their PHD.sfexcellence wrote:Great report Eurobrat, looking forward to your trip report of Chur in Graubunden canton in Switzerland, sounds like the people there know how to party, and Switzerland is somewhat insulated as a country so not surprising that some of them have never met an American, and Swiss women can be very elegant, classy and sophisticated from my experience in the country.

There are more americans in Zurich, which is the most english friendly speaking city in Switzerland.
Most Swiss can speak english to some degree, especially the younger generation.

I gotta tell ya, when I was in Geneve I found it quite easy to approach people and people seem on average to be far more open and sociable then here in Canada, for me it was like night and day, the way of being and living in Switzerland was the exact opposite of say Vancouver Canada. I've heard Swiss society described as a coconut society, once you break in you have friends for life, really good friends and strong relationships.
Didn't know that Zurich was so friendly for English speaking, I'll keep that in mind for my next trip to the country in September.

Spot on. It can be difficult to make friends with the swiss, but once you do you have a friend for life.sfexcellence wrote:I gotta tell ya, when I was in Geneve I found it quite easy to approach people and people seem on average to be far more open and sociable then here in Canada, for me it was like night and day, the way of being and living in Switzerland was the exact opposite of say Vancouver Canada. Luckily 25% of the population in Zurich are also foreigners, so its easy to make friends with people in the same boat new to the country. I have met women here from all parts of Europe including russia, romania, italy, and other eastern european countries. Zurich is basically a mix of Europe.
Quality of life is excellent, Zurich is rated the world's most livable city. Very clean, almost zero crime, public drinking is allowed yet you rarely see any drunks. People are extremely intelligent. Public transport is incredible, trains always depart/arrive EXACTLY on the minute. Health care - best in the world. Oh and the nature/scenery is breath taking. Lots of adventure sports to do like skiing, snowboarding, paragliding, etc.
Switzerland is very expensive if you're not earning the currency here. If you do earn money here, then you are paid very highly and taxes are the lowest in Europe.
As for the women... they are very quiet and introverted. German women are more open and easier to talk to. Hook up with a German woman and live in Switzerland, and you're living the dream. That is what I've done

If you're an introvert then you will fit right in here (like me). I feel much more at home here than I ever did in Australia.
Eurobrat,
I just wanted to say thank you for your trip report. Please forgive the negativity on this forum. You have to understand that a lot of guys here are suffering and need to vent their anger and whine. Trip reports like yours at least give them a glimmer of hope. And without hope, a man has nothing. So at least you can help provide a glimmer of light for them. So on behalf of everyone here, I thank you.

Speaking of glimmer of light, for all interested, check out a book called Swiss Watching, it's all about Switzerland and the Swiss. In it he talks briefly about Geneve and about how unique it is in Switzerland, very French and very international, a city of peace and understanding, International Geneva.
