The sad part of it is, the only people who get to be part of it are the big US, Chinese, Arab players. For the rest of us, our personal slice of heaven might just amount to a 2-bedroom, 60 sqm flat in one of the many periperal high-rises, with a vista on the City of Dreams.

It would be nice if some development could improve the life of many ordinary low-income people in the Philippines, including poor people I know personally and are living near to the home of my Filipina fosterdaughter in Cebu.

However they will hardly benefit from such large projects.

Most of the profit will move into the wallets of corrupt politicians and businessmen, another large part of the money will be given to improve military spendings because of China, also internal problems in the South Philippines will cost money, there is also a serious crime problem, there is a missing infrastructure of streets and islands are not connected to each other. There are other serious problems, like overpopulation, missing medical care, even food shortages, natural disasters, plenty of jobless people without higher education etc. etc.

Sad but true, for the ordinary Filipino I see very little change in the future. Many have to survive with an income barely covering daily needs, but others are even worse off - they are jobless, often homeless, and we shall not forget about the life of about 2 million streetchildren. These children have nothing, no basic medical care, very little food and often no access to clean drinking water.

Not to talk about missing shower and toilet facilities, dirty rags instead of clothes, looking at thrown away comics instead learning some basics in an elementary school. Many of them do not even have a birth certificate, as their birth was never registered...
Their future: criminals, beggars...

Precisely, When was the last time, ordinary humans had a shine in the world stage...ummm ...Never. ....Before, this came, I did not had a clear picture as to why they are crazily building up infrastructure in Philippines as it's a third world country with Typhoons not really on the world stage except Manny Pacquiao. Even what they did so far, did not warrant such crazy growth in Philippines.

I thought, they should go crazy about India, Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil, Indonesia etc countries...but the Vibe from Elites was always Philippines. The signs of Evil are when they start building huge casino's..which is kinda Ritual for these elites...Like Vegas is for America's growth, Macau for China...and Manila Casinos for Philippines.

We also know, these elites are pure evil and they have insider knowledge and so wouldn't built anything if they weren't told to do from the highest level. The richest guys in Philippines are either from Spanish Royal bloodlines or from Chinese Secret Societies.

They do this quietly, set their shop up and then call us Ordinary folks to fill it up.

In Mandaluyong, a Suburb of Manila...where i was staying has a new high rise called SM Light Residence with over 1000 - 30 to 60 sq feet Condo's. Few years back, 90% of the rooms were empty and i thought, who in the right mind would build so many condos in a piss poor country and then, this guy is the richest man in Philippines and connected to secret societies..surely, he must have some knowledge than we do before building the condos...They are Evil but not stupid.

Now, the picture is becoming clear as to why the Construction boom in Philippines is so high than it has even over taken China.

I believe the truth is in the middle. The vast majority of Filipinos will stay poor and keep living the simple, rural and hardship-prone life they are used to. Those who do have the opportunity to get a good college education and are smart and ambitious might get a chance to develop themselves (and support their families) in Manila, or some other major city, without having to go abroad and feel like a pariah.

Yes those BPOs and tech hub jobs in Manila might still be paid half of what they could aspire to in Singapore, South Korea or Japan. Yet, they are still good enough to have a good stab at a career and send some money back home in the province. It's impossible to think that these humongous developments ongoing, or projected to go on, in Manila will have no trickle down effect on at least some of the general population. A fresh Masters graduate working in Manila for a software company has a base salary of 60,000 pesos, which is what a resident doctor earns in a tier-2 city like Davao after 20 years of academia and medical profession.

The uplifting of Filipino society will be there, but will be slower, more error-prone and more gradual than, say, what happened in China. At least their more westernised and English-speaking workforce is more qualified for service economy job than raw manufacturing in insanely dirty sweatshops. A big difference, if you ask me.

Thanks for posting this. I personally believe a major paradigm shift is coming soon to the global economy and $40 oil could be the trigger event. The rich countries will become poor and the poor countries will become rich. I know Filipinos that work for $2 a day, try and compete with that.

Starchild I really don't think the elites wish to elevate the average Filipino, ever. They need the third world to stay poor, desperate and fertile, so that they can continue to provide cheap and motivated laborers for a long time to come. Looking at how corrupt, ineffective and disfuctional the Filipino government is, chances are their leaders are "in on it". I'm not much of a supporter of conspiracy theories, but some of the evidence is simply too obvious to discard. Just look at the way in which their government messes up with educational "reforms" right now, that require teachers to do twice the regular work, neglecting many students and lowering their learning performance.

For a select few, life in the Philippines will continue to be swell, and get better and better as time goes by. For the vast majority, the future remains bleak. It's in the interest of the Philippines' neighbors, such as Japan, to keep the Philippines down. Why else would Filipina nurses come and take care of Japan's elderly who spit on them in the retirement houses and hospitals, and still smile and say thank you? Because the pay is high, and kept low in the Philippines. So the Filipino swallows his pride and does what no man wishes to do, returning home with the "millionaire for a month" effect.

So no, I wouldn't say the Philippines is the future of the world. Although on paper, things certainly look good right now, it's a bubble. As long as there will be at least one person in many a poor family who has a shot at a better life and takes it, Filipino's will always dream, dream of a better tomorrow in a miserable today. And Mr. Aquino and his talk show host sister cry all the way to the bank.

Speaking about the Salary increase.

Solaire Casino is paying 40,000 basic for receptionist, compared to 15k in other places...The casino croupier are getting high salary as well which lured them back to Manila from Macau. The BPO, Call Center is already the number 1 in the world and over took India a long time ago.

Just look at SM mega mall...They are further expanding it.... Its already the 3rd largest mall in the world after China's two big malls but they are empty....and this attracts like 800k foot traffic a day

Yes. That's why I posted this thread on Conspiracy. Its only now like 5 years late that we are coming to terms with Oil Drop and Philippines benefiting the most. I first came to Philippines around 2006 and the Developments have already started. I was thinking who in the right mind would built condos in a piss poor third world country.

On a more personal level.
