Some comments from other Redditors:My uncle was one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. He had a PhD in physics and spent most of his career working for NASA in the 70s and 80s. He wasn’t an astronaut, but he was heavily involved in research and development for space missions.
When I was a teenager, I asked him the big question: “Did we really land on the moon?”
He didn’t laugh, didn’t roll his eyes—just gave me this tired smile and said, “Kid, if you knew how many people it takes to fake something like that, you’d realize it’s easier to just go to the damn moon.”
That answer has stuck with me ever since.
My go to question for moon landing deniers is this: if we faked the landing, and everyone seems to know it...why wasn't our opponent in the space race, Russia, screaming it to the f***ing heavens? They've never been above disinformation either, and they didn't even try to lie about it and say it was faked. They usually don't have an answer.
The space race was a big deal back then. Russia has got into space first and both Russia and the US were desperate to raise their flag on the noon first. If they hadn't made it the Russians would have made sure the world knew.
The USSR would've screamed it from the rooftops if we faked it.
No but like….seriously it’s one of the dumbest of the big conspiracy theories it is legitimately the dumbest. JFK, fine you could have plausibly had a small rouge element in the government that orchestrated a hit but the moon landing? The amount of highly intelligent people that would all have to agree to lie and then keep that lie is insane. Not to mention all of the scientists since who agree that all of the stuff involved makes sense and would have worked, like it just doesn’t make sense at a base level.
Funny to think about but a logistical nightmare if true
Unfortunately so many today think being contrarian is the same as being inteligent. So now we are surrounded by morons who think vaccines don’t work, the earth is flat, and the moon landing was faked. Information is easier to get today than ever before. Flip side is misinformation is easier to push out than ever before as well. I think one of the biggest unintended consequences of the Internet is that the responsible “gatekeepers” that would publish and put out legitimate information are on equal footing with some random dude in his basement.
I've had similar conversations about the COVID vaccinations - that they are a global conspiracy and the data is faked, the injections are population control time-bombs, etc., etc.
Like, #1, you are wildly ignorant of how clinical research works...it's not just random people dropping data in an Excel spreadsheet and the FDA saying it passes a vibe check.
#2, something like a quarter the global population would have to be in on it...
This is why I’ll never believe 9/11 was an inside job. Nobody can keep a secret that big.
