My uncle was one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. He had a PhD in physics and spent most of his career working for NASA in the 70s and 80s. He wasn’t an astronaut, but he was heavily involved in research and development for space missions.

When I was a teenager, I asked him the big question: “Did we really land on the moon?”

He didn’t laugh, didn’t roll his eyes—just gave me this tired smile and said, “Kid, if you knew how many people it takes to fake something like that, you’d realize it’s easier to just go to the damn moon.”

That answer has stuck with me ever since.
Some comments from other Redditors:
My go to question for moon landing deniers is this: if we faked the landing, and everyone seems to know it...why wasn't our opponent in the space race, Russia, screaming it to the f***ing heavens? They've never been above disinformation either, and they didn't even try to lie about it and say it was faked. They usually don't have an answer.
The space race was a big deal back then. Russia has got into space first and both Russia and the US were desperate to raise their flag on the noon first. If they hadn't made it the Russians would have made sure the world knew.
The USSR would've screamed it from the rooftops if we faked it.
No but like….seriously it’s one of the dumbest of the big conspiracy theories it is legitimately the dumbest. JFK, fine you could have plausibly had a small rouge element in the government that orchestrated a hit but the moon landing? The amount of highly intelligent people that would all have to agree to lie and then keep that lie is insane. Not to mention all of the scientists since who agree that all of the stuff involved makes sense and would have worked, like it just doesn’t make sense at a base level.

Funny to think about but a logistical nightmare if true
Unfortunately so many today think being contrarian is the same as being inteligent. So now we are surrounded by morons who think vaccines don’t work, the earth is flat, and the moon landing was faked. Information is easier to get today than ever before. Flip side is misinformation is easier to push out than ever before as well. I think one of the biggest unintended consequences of the Internet is that the responsible “gatekeepers” that would publish and put out legitimate information are on equal footing with some random dude in his basement.
I've had similar conversations about the COVID vaccinations - that they are a global conspiracy and the data is faked, the injections are population control time-bombs, etc., etc.

Like, #1, you are wildly ignorant of how clinical research works...it's not just random people dropping data in an Excel spreadsheet and the FDA saying it passes a vibe check.

#2, something like a quarter the global population would have to be in on it...
This is why I’ll never believe 9/11 was an inside job. Nobody can keep a secret that big.

It would take less than 20 people to stage the moon landings. You wouldn't want too many because someone would inevitably talk.

@kangarunner Who set up the camera to capture Neil Armstrong coming down the ladder and be the first to walk on the moon?

You might not be aware, but when kangarunner joined the forum, he showed signs of severe bipolar syndrome and other mental illness. Recently, he has calmed down. I suspect he has either poisoned himself with soy and other estrogens or else prozac or other antidepressants that reduced his testosterone and made him feminized. This explains why he is hanging out on and getting his info from social media like reddit, which is dominated by feminists and trannies. You can't reason with such people. You just have to wait for the soy to get out of their system. So let's all wish kangarunner a speedy recovery from his soy poisoning.

As for the argument that it is impossible to keep scams a secret, that's true. And guess what happens when you reveal the scam? This thread shows what happens. Nothing. People ignore the truth because there is no profit in telling the truth. Suppose Neil Armstrong had told the truth. Then NASA would explain that the stress of fame was too much and poor Neil had lost his mind and we all wish him a speedy recovery, same as I'm wishing kangarunner. And anyone who repeated Neil Armstrong's story would be ostracized and ignored and lose out on promotions and eventually get fired for something unrelated so they couldn't claim persecution for telling the truth.

For thousands of years, people repeated nonsense about Moses parting the Red Sea and Jesus rising into heaven and no one thought this strange. Easy to get everyone to believe a lie if there is a group of powerful people who benefit from the lie (Catholic Church in the middle ages) and no one really benefits from the truth. Does anyone here benefit from knowing and repeating the truth about the moon landing hoax? Almost certainly not. I used to believe the hoax, now I don't. If I needed a job at NASA, I would probably try to believe in the hoax again just to avoid trouble.

Returning to the original topic: There are lots of truths that get exposed and it's the job of the corporate media to make sure that they never see the light of day. It's a lot more difficult in the internet age, but they're still pretty damn good at their jobs. Youtube sleuthed me out as a subversive commenter and shadow bans most of my offerings, even when the video's about dogs or baseball or something similarly innocuous.

To Frank/Shemp: You were right. Mr. Hyde has taken up residence in the Oval Office the last several days and has been threatening to start a war with Iran that would completely tank the U.S. economy. Maybe it's to cover up the fact that his tariff scheme isn't going to have any effect on inflation and other economic problems. Smack me down again the next time Dr. Jeckyl makes an appearance and I start to get giddy.

I'm in Bucharest, by the way, after spending six months in Nebraska and not seeing -- as God is my witness -- a single female past the teen years who wasn't morbidly obese. Okay, I just thought of one. Nobody else coming to mind.

I'm on tenterhooks, constantly checking the news even while camped out here in Spain, but continuing to withhold judgment until all the facts are in, and meanwhile preparing as best as I can for all contingencies. For example, I just this week put 10% of my money into VDE (US Energy stocks ETF) in case Straits of Hormuz get blocked, since I felt lacking enough energy exposure. News is more exciting than ever, that's the bright side of things.
