What's Japan's stance on gay and lesbian people? Is it still an "it's alright, so long you don't shout it in public" one?

To be honest, I do not really know - I have no experience at all about how gay men organize their life-style in Japan.

I have no idea either how many they are, but most of them I guess do not reveal their sexual orientation. And why should they?

About myself, I am a straight person and I do not show up with anything which makes it clear that I am straight.

A man might be gay, but as long as he is not wearing earrings or tattoo, makeup or something like that, how to know he is gay?

There are some gay and lesbian people who want to marry and something like that is now under discussion in Japanese politics.
But I do not really know what is going on.

As said already, I do not care, their way of life is not my way of life, their problem regarding same-sex relationship is not my problem.

I think a misconception homophobes make about gay people is that we want to f**k every man we see just because we are gay. That isn't the case.

I don't think most of us who have gone from 100% tolerant of homos (which I was before, despite not being able to fathom the homo mens' "preference") to 100% violently murderously homophobic (which I am now) have any anxiety about that at all. I think the realization that effeminate men like us (masculine men) was weird but only mildly amusing, at worst.
