Dental Tourism for real

That's about a third of what I was quoted for a gold bridge in the U.S. Cost of the gold probably makes it higher relative to other procedures. I was repulsed by Pattaya, but if confident these were competent dentists, I would consider this option.

As far as I know, this is the largest dental service in Pattaya, within Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, the largest private hospital in that region, but it is known to be expensive compared to any other clinic or hospital.

As we discussed three years ago, I was repulsed by everything else -- the congestion, the filth, the stench (open sewers), the stray dogs, the weather, the hyper-sexualized freak show, not being able to sit down and have a drink without being hounded by some bar girl. But I'd consider going back for a good and cheap dentist. There are plenty of well-heeled tourists who go there, as well as westerners such as yourself and Rock who have places there. and I don't doubt services have risen to a standard that satisfies them.

I see, well the stray dogs are everywhere in Thailand and an annoyance.
The weather in Pattaya, it depends on season, but usually hot and humid.

Freak shows and bar girls - you have to go away from such places like Walking Street, Southern Beach Road, Northern 2nd road, Soi Buakhao...
It's not everywhere like that, Pattaya from Naklua to Southern Jomtien, this is a huge area .

Traffic congestion is now much better after opening the 2nd road in Jomtien and the underpass SukhumvitRoad/Central Pattaya Road.

Traffic situation also depends strongly on season, sometimes also very crowded during certain weekends/Thai holidays - winter time is terrible with too many tourists, especially Christmas/New Year, but I have been this year in all July in my own rooms in Pattaya/Jomtien and there was very little business going on. Quite silent everywhere. Summer time is totally off-season in Pattaya.

About sewer smell, not that bad, at least not where I have my condominium-unit in Pattaya/Jomtien.

If you move a bit out from Pattaya Center, for example to Naklua (north) or Southern Jomtien or on the other side of the Sukhumvit Road, you will have by far much less problems with traffic, bargirls, etc. In this case however you should rent a motorcycle.

If you want to disappear for a day, just take the cheap ferry to Koh Lan island or go over to Sri Racha to Koh Chang Island or just ride a 30 minutes to Wat Yansangwararam or similar places.

Pattaya Central of course is not an ordinary Thai town, it is a holiday city for tourism of any kind, from low-life to super-rich, from Thai ladyboy to Russian oligarch. Any kind of person you find there.

However for this reason you have also very good medical care in this area, many good shopping possibilities, condominium offers for foreigners and so on.
I bought our own rooms - what I consider as second home for vacation/retirement, as I am living in Tokyo - about 15 years ago, and never had any serious complaint. You need however a while to look around, I have my own motorcycle in Pattaya.

Asavanant in Bangkok is considered by many to be one of the best dentists in the world. Right at the Thong Lo BTS Station. They aren't cheap though, maybe the most expensive in Thailand but they are very very good. You know as soon as you walk in the joint that it's for a high end clientele. I would say roughly 30 to 40 percent cost of equivalent quality work (ie the best) in the states. But that's for world class work, having lived in Bangkok for 5 years I knew lots of guys who went to cheaper places and were very happy though. Can't remember names. For me I've always looked at dental work the same as shoes, can't afford cheap ones.

Thanks, I'll look into it, but I imagine I can't afford them. The other problem is that knowing me and where I live I would only be some drunken hijinks or argument away from losing it all anyway, so there is a limit to what I want to invest in my teeth.

I think you can go to Mexico, where you can get best dental treatment and can spend interesting holiday too.
