I think that the list of success stories should be separate from the FAQ and should be on one of the quick access links.

Great idea. But why not just change the title of the trip reports forum to "Trip Reports and Success Stories"? That would save the trouble of creating a new board. Most of the trip reports there are success stories anyway or at least positive.

I'm not sure what the definition of "success" is. But I did indeed go abroad and kind of found "success".

I think my biggest achievement was walking out of my job and actually going abroad. That was the hardest part. If anyone else is thinking about doing it --> just do it!

Dating was great in China, and good in Thailand (but not nearly as good as I thought it would be). The downside is that I am not sure I am the marrying type, so maybe my wife quest was in vain. I'm also aware that so many (all?) Asian women have some kind of agenda, and in some cases I just think that I was totally interchangeable with another guy. I just wonder what's happening in all those parallel universes where I actually ended up marrying the ladies I was fond of.

But there's more to life than dating, and I was generally MUCH healthier, and MUCH less stressed while I was abroad. I also lost weight, despite all that Beer Chang.

I am generally terrible at learning languages, but I am impressed with how much Chinese I have remembered, despite having nobody to practice with apart from an occasional wechat girl.

Living abroad is great for building self confidence, and I recommend that all shy/socially awkward guys do it. It's also good for becoming more street wise. I had a number of very tricky situations in Bangkok, usually involving crazy people (of which there are many there).

Another maybe overlooked achievement was that after coming back home I got a job and settled back into society. Not everyone manages this. I worry about a friend of a friend who went abroad, came back, couldn't settle back in and has now gone abroad again.
