@Outcast9428 also claims that the American south is so great yet you don't seem to think that.
OMG the South is the most boring, backward region of the entire country. I could go on and on but what I have to say about people in the South is too nasty to write here. At least in Memphis, there isn't shit to do here. Memphis is shit to live. These people here are backward and hard-headed. They have ZERO intellectual curiosity. They cling to their good ole country values, football teams, they call themselves Christians and then they set traps for you to fall into (this happened to me several times). I f***ing HATE THESE PEOPLE.
Winston once told me "Wait, I thought people in the South were real nice and friendly and showed Southern hospitality.".......SMH, live down here and find out the hard way. They will show you a "fake nice exterior" that lasts about 5 seconds and then the nasty side of them comes out.
I'd rather live somewhere where the underlying presumption of the social is that everyone is an asshole. At least then, there's no "pretend nice" fakeness. Better to be an honest asshole than a fake nice person with a nasty side.
Memphis named one of the worst-run major cities in the US: study

I'll happily take "boring" over what all the "exciting" states seem to be offering... Which is rampant degeneracy and crime.
Honestly, I can't say I know a lot about Tennessee. I am very familiar with Virginia and North Carolina. And I know a decent bit about West Virginia and South Carolina. I am very familiar with Florida as well, but I don't consider Florida to be a Southern state, even if it is geographically located in the South. Culturally, it is completely on its own.
As far as intellectual curiosity goes... I went to a college mainly consisting of people from New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and the Northern, DC part of Virginia. And they were dumb as rocks. They may have been college students, going to a semi-prestigious university. But holy crap they were dumb. If you are expecting the majority of people around you to be smart and capable of deep intellectual conversations. Nowhere is going to be your place, because the average person simply isn't smart. It definitely creates barriers for me when trying to make close friends out of people, but I still find that plenty of average to low IQ people, I can get along friendly enough with.
And that's what I'm looking for in a population, I'm looking for people I can get along decently enough with. People who aren't going to be a threat to me and people who are not going to get triggered/bothered by my political views. It doesn't matter to me anymore because I found someone, but you can definitely find good girls in the South. I mean, I found one living right next door. That wouldn't have been possible in California.
Also, keep in mind, in the states where people are openly assholes to one another, there is much worse behavior. In Florida for example, people will literally try to sexually assault your girlfriend in front of your face. When you aren't around, they will shout disgusting, vulgar things at her and try to pick her up. Having a girlfriend in Florida is an absolute nightmare. Having a girlfriend in Virginia, on the other hand, is very easy. People smile at us and call us a cute couple in Virginia. In Florida, they fix us with predatory stares and either try to take your girlfriend from you directly, or they will openly talk shit about you. Nobody does that in Virginia, people here will leave you alone.
And I get along decently with the rednecky people from around here too. As close friends, we probably aren't a good fit for one another, but I can still get along with them decently enough. Rednecky type people are pretty easy to talk to, and they do tend to be fairly friendly, even if we come from very different walks of life. Sure, football is pretty popular among Gen xers and Boomers, but its not like anyone's given me grief for not being into it.
One thing I will say, and it could be why I have a very good opinion of the South... Is that Virginia, in particular, is a pretty wealthy and developed state. Most of the South is not as wealthy or developed as Virginia is. Texas is pretty developed and wealthy, but its probably the only Southern state that can compare. Virginia also has one of the lowest violent crime rates in the country.
I like Virginia a lot because its one of the few states in America that actually does feel somewhat conservative, in the sense that conservative lifestyles and opinion are kind of the default here... Opposing casual sex and hookups is seen as the honorable way of life here and it still feels like the dominant cultural perspective. So conservatism has strong influence around here. But its also wealthy and developed at the same time. Its not a really rural state, and you don't have to go to a backwater town to enjoy living around fairly conservative people.
The conservatism here is also a bit of a more, pleasant flavor... So to speak. The majority of conservative Republicans around here are just simple family people. Conservatives from some of the other states for example also tend to be fanatical about hunting, football, beer, or fishing. You don't really see much of that in Virginia. Its mainly just religious families, living simple lives out in the suburbs. Which is how I imagine true 1950s conservatism looking like. Not that Virginia is anything like the 1950s, but you get the point.
