Best type of exercise for the bossman

What kind of exercise would be best for Winston?

I had a conversation with Winston on WhatsApp the other day about his need to exercise, to which he protested that he does get enough exercise walking, visiting museums, etc.

I then explained to him that he needs to do "proper exercise" in order to lose the pot belly, get in shape and look attractive for the ladies. Wanting to look out for a friend, I looked up gyms and martial arts schools in Chiayi.

What type of proper exercise do you think Winston should do?

1. Weight training

Excellent for posture, counteracts muscle loss typical of aging, and makes a man look primally masculine. Even many women are into it today.

2. Crossfit

Includes exercise routines that engage various components of fitness and can leave you dripping with sweat in just 15 minutes.

3. Kickboxing

Combines padwork, technique and sparring with intense circuit training. Far more fun than regular gym. Doesn't even feel like exercise.

4. Wrestling/Brazilian Jiujitsu

Winston thinks that Wrestling and Jiujitsu are "barbaric" (lol! :lol: ) but the athleticism of wrestlers is off the charts and even butt-scooting Jiujiteiros are usually in good shape.

Winston probably thinks that the above is scripted like WWE! :lol:

5. Zumba

Intense dance routine. Winston could even meet some hot chicks! 8)

Let's help the bossman choose a type of exercise to practice and encourage him to get in shape! :D

Working out is a complete waste of time. Nobody cares about how many plates you lift, or how hard you work, and how good your diet is. The only thing that matters is genetics and that's face, height, skin quality, and frame.

Winston doesn't want to do it so all advice is futile BUT if I was to advise a middle aged, out of shape man into a workout programme that he could stick to. I wouldn't even suggest joining a gym or a club. I would advise investing in

a) some free weights and a bench

b) a good quality exercise bike or a stepper

c) a good quality rowing machine.

For home use.

In my apartment here in China, I have the free weights and rowing machine and a versaclimber and all I do is get up and go and do my workout in my undies which is very liberating :lol:

I would advise on starting on one set of weights and 3 minutes on the bike, rowing machine or stepper and then build it up a minute a time until he gets used to the exercise.

He needs to pay attention to diet which again, Winston isn't going to do that but he needs to up his protein to at least a gram point 2 per kilogram or thereabouts but he's middle aged and it's a good idea that he needs to get doing something to stop the quick slide into old age and its associated ailments - I don't think women come into it when you get to our age, you exercise to keep agile, fit and as strong as possible as you head into your sixties or seventies.
