Hope you recover and are ok PD. If Omicron is asymptomatic, then why the restrictions at malls and public places? I heard in Angeles City they are doing the same thing. Isn't this a fake way to divide people? It makes no sense. A war on the unvaccinated sounds very scary and Orwellian.

Why can't the conspiracy deniers here at least admit that the truthers were right on this and that their prediction that the government would aggressively push the vaccines came true after all? Truthers are not wrong about everything, they are right about some things. Conspiracy deniers (aka "coincidence theorists") should be honest and admit that.

Btw, are all new Covid cases Omicron or are some still the original strain? So all the Covid strains worldwide mutated into Omicron at the same time? How is that possible? I don't get it.

What did Anthony Fauci say about all this? And the WHO? Did they say that the pandemic will be over soon since Omicron is like a mild flu or cold?

It may well be true. Omicron has been sweeping Manila like crazy in the past few days. It may also be true that the 80,000 acute cases you refer to may have plateaued, since virtually all these Omicron cases are asymptomatic or mild. Also, Metro Manila has a 90% vaccination rate, which probably helped with the elderly and more fragile not ending up in a ward or ICU.

Omicron is also sweeping Japan like crazy in the past few days, especially places with US military bases, like Okinawa or Yamaguchi.
But restrictions you report from Philippines, not even allowed leaving your rooms for a walk, this does not exist in Japan. I can go out anytime, travel to any place I want in all Japan, no mask required outdoors. I guess we have now about 18.000 infected people, but data will be fully updated on coming Tuesday (Monday is a bank holidday in Japan) - a few weeks ago it was below 1000, covid-19 almost gone.

Only today, in Narita Airport 169 arriving passengers were infected.
Okinawa with its large US military facilites reports 1769 infected people.
Today in all Japan 8480 new infections were reported, a record number. 15 times more than last week.

About Philippines, 1 out of 3 is impossible this would be 40 million people be infected.
You could maybe multiplicate the official count 3 or even 5 x, makes maybe up to 400.000 or 500.000 acute cases and totally instead of 3 million infected people 10 million or 15 million, but surely not 40 million people.

What the WHO says, is meaningless, this international organization is now a political tool under the control of China. The present director general is not even a medical doctor. He is just saying what China allows him to say.

About Omicron, in Korea and Japan the opinion of medical researchers so far is that 'we do not know it yet'. Especially long-term after-effects are still very unclear. However this new omicron variant appear to have a structure which is somewhat more similar to the flu-virus and shows up with very similar symptoms, but is still not the same as the flu virus.

In Japan the patients are still mixed, some have delta virus, some have omicron, but only 89 people in all Japan are reported in serious condition.

Today only 2 people died, confirmed corona-virus related. - But we have about 3700 funerals per day out of a population of 126 million people (1.380.000 funerals per year)

I think, some governments, like Australia, USA and some countries in Europe reacting like crazy, mandatory vaccination or lockdowns which makes it impossible even to leave your apartment - the worst restrictive measure are however reported from China.

I think there's quite a bit on confusion on this. News outlets reported that up to 40% of those tested (PCR or antigen, I assume, or just PCR) were found positive. There is a massive sample bias here because, as you can imagine, people in rural areas don't even have the money, let alone the infrastructure, to get tested multiple times. These data are probably coming from Metro Manila and maybe other large cities like Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, etc.

By direct experience, I can say there are a lot of people right now with Covid, including several friends of my wife C's. She showed me her college barkada group chat a few minutes ago, and they were talking about how everyone has at least one member of their family tested Covid positive. From the tone of the conversation, all have mild or no symptoms. Nobody is an acute case, let alone in danger. Just based on our little network, I could say the 40% figure may well be correct, at least in Metro Manila.

This, and more I have been reading around the world, is starting to get me on a more optimistic mood: Omicron may very, very well be the event where Covid becomes endemic, so absorbed and tolerated by the world population. Vaccines probably helped specific age groups or those with prior health conditions. The price to pay was probably a few hundred billion dollars too many, compared to just sticking to CDC-approved HCQ, vitamin D and Ivermectin (for later treatment).

An even higher price to pay was the hundreds of thousands, perhaps million people being left with potentially lifelong conditions as a consequence of the jabs. I dread to think that this number can only rise if our politicians continue to obsess with forcing the products of what is now clearly a global medical duopoly (Pfizer/Moderna) to the population, without a proper assessment of the risks involved.

Thanks @Yohan. I had no fever both in the morning and evening. Knowing how a cold usually hits me, the cough will probabl stay for another few days but it's already sporadic (once every 30 minutes, or so).

I think the Filipino government is a total laggard - they have these two or three think tanks who will basically review the world situation and make copycat decisions. I have never seen anything original, or counterstream, from them. To mimic many other Euro countries, they have recently started to ban unvaccinated people from much of public life. It's statistically very easy to prove that vaccinated people are responsible for contagion much more than unvaccinated, assuming that, at least in Manila, at any one time or place, there are more vaccinated people out and about than unvaccinated.

It's a form of divide and conquer for the mind. An old trick they have used since WW2. Blame "the unvaccinated" as a curse minority and you will automatically increase the perceive value of complying with the majority. Who wants to be with the "outcasts", the fascists, the conspiracy theorists? It's old propaganda and it's working better and better because people nowadays have less and less time to think for themselves. They have kids to drive to school, promotions to get, mortgages to pay.

People like you and some others on this forum, who can afford to take a step back, learn from multiple sources and make logical, as opposed to "compliant", conclusions, are fewer and fewer.

I wouldn't trust Fauci and his cohort to give me the time of the day. No idea what he will be saying. For those bought off by the Pfizer/Moderna duopoly, the pandemic may never end and we will need to jab the whole world multiple times a year.

I don't understand something. If you just have a bad cold, then why did you go to the doctor in the first place to get tested? Why didn't you rest at home for a few days? Going to the doctor to get tested could have gotten you locked up or quarantined right? Or forced to take the vaccine.

Are all your wife's Filipino friends getting the vaccine? It seems all the powers that be care about is the vaccine, not the virus. Kind of creepy and sickening and twisted and abnormal. How can everyone not see the obvious red flag here? It's a no brainer.

I didn't really go to the doctor, @Winston, I just wanted to get tested, hoping I would be Covid positive, for a simple reason: I hope that a positive test followed by a negative test in a few weeks will help me not looking like a pariah to at least some chaps here. As I said, the Philippines don't recognise the status of "Covid recovered" like in Europe. You're either vaccinated or you're unvaccinated.

My hope is that, by presenting both certificates, I will be allowed into at least some establishments, like restaurants, or the gym (I'm need a proper place to exercise). My other hope is that, when Metro Manila goes back to Alert Level 2 or even 1, they will allow unvaccinated to have a public life. I know it's insane but, not wanting to get the jab ever, this is all I have got.

As for C's friends, we're talking a cohort of vaccinated people with ages ranging from early 20s to late 80s (their grandparents). None of them has been reported to be fighting for their lives in a hospital bed, so I have to assume Omicron must really be quite ineffective, as a lethal mutation "of concern" for the health authorities.

What I keep asking myself is what would have happened to these same people if they were unvaccinated, or only had a first jab several months ago. Since my symptoms are the same as all of these other vaccinated people even younger than me, I wonder if the vaccine really has made a difference with the Omicron variant. Maybe, maybe not.

All in all, I just don't see the ground to force an entire population of almost 110 million to get an experimental gene therapy that hasn't been proved safe and not even much more effective than the usual seasonal flu shot.
