How does Rock stay so thin and eat so little?
How does Rock stay so thin and eat so little?
Every time I go out with Rock, I notice that he eats so little and stays so thin. He even eats less than Dianne. It's like he eats the same portion as my son Angelo who is only 7. At a Mexican place he might eat like one or two tacos and then that's it.
How does Rock do that? Why does he have such a small appetite? How does he not go hungry? What's his trick? Is it cause his choices are different or his body is different?
Even though Rock is a lot taller than me, he weighs less. Imagine that. Rock what's your height and weight again?

Maybe hes used to being cheap when eating out with filipinas so they dont think he has a lot of money so hes sort of fell into the habit of eating small.
Joking but i used to have a small appetite when i was younger.

Re: How does Rock stay so thin and eat so little?
This thread is kinda silly. My size is very normal. When I buy suits, I'm a 40 or 41 regular, probably the most popular size in the shops of a W. European country.
I currently weigh around 167 lbs. and have a BMI of about 23 (normal is 18.5 - 24.9). My lean body mass is at a healthy level and I can do 18 pull-ups or dozens of push-ups if just a single set (12 pull-ups if doing many sets with breaks in between).
I had recent surgery and have to take it easy on eating at the moment. But when I am in exercise mode, I can down big smoothies with lots of protein powder, 3 meat and vegetable rich meals, lots of fruits, nuts and butter, and other foods which bring me up to a pretty high daily calorie count. When my activity level is lower like now, I eat less. That's fitting.
I notice you approach food like a lot of foodies, as if it's one of life's pleasures to be indulged in. I also noticed that a lot of foodies get fatter and fatter over time lol. Those guys forget to balance things and just eat and eat and eat. Well yes, food can be enjoyed of course but if you become a glutton, it will damage your body over time. It's not just about eating less but also about eating things which are good for you or at least not too harmful. The bad stuff at least needs to be moderated and controlled.

But rock, what is your height and how do you control your appetite to eat so little?
You are not normal. Most American men your age are fatter and eat more. Come on. You know that.

Re: How does Rock stay so thin and eat so little?
My nationality is USA but I am not very American culturally. My long term official residency is Taiwan and in Taipei I am probably larger than average - plenty of BMIs in low 20s or high teens in all age groups. In Japan, I'm borderline overweight. I have a friend who is a bit slimmer than me (Jewish American) who during his time in Japan was sometimes told he is overweight. It's all relative Winston.Winston wrote:But rock, what is your height and how do you control your appetite to eat so little?

I gave you my weight and BMI. You can work out my height from that info. Or just gauge by sight since you've seen me in person. I know I can tell a person's height within one inch just by looking at them and checking out their footwear.
Just because you inhale food like it's some kind of addictive drug doesn't mean we all suffer from the same obsessions. As for my so-called American peers, I'm not like them at all, in most ways. You know that. Come on now. Why should I care if 2/3 of Americans are fat to obese? If I lived in USA, I would be in remaining one third. My parents and relatives are not fat asses either. You think too much in terms of stereotypes and forget we are all distinct individuals.
Re: How does Rock stay so thin and eat so little?
My situation is pretty similar to Rock.
I'm 165 lbs, and my BMI 22. I used to weigh 225 back around '07-'08. For me, it's simply about eating less.. a lot less. I used to consume about 2600 calories per day back when I was heavy, and I didn't even pay attention to it. I just ate what I wanted, when I wanted. It's simply a matter of calories in, calories out. That simple idea helped me lose 60 pounds over the years. I keep weight off by eating veggies and fish, swimming, doing jiu-jitsu, and never consuming more than 2500 calories per day (on days where I have exercise.) On non exercise days my calorie intake is around 1800-2000. Read labels, exercise, and monitor yourself.

Rock ate plenty of fruit when I was with him in Thailand. Also I was pleased that he would never pay over the odds for fruit, and he always knew what the local price should be for the stuff.
Personally I'm not a big fan of fruit.

Re: How does Rock stay so thin and eat so little?
But rock you're a white expat, not a Taiwanese. You're thinner than most expats your age even. So you're not average. Lol
From looking at you I'd guess you're about 5ft11 or 6ft.
But how do you control your appetite? What if I ate the same way you did? Would that make me like you? Is it all about diet and lifestyle or is your DNA and genes a factor too?
I actually eat small portions now and have been for months. But my body refuses to get much thinner. It seems that my genes set my weight and refuses to budge. The BBC documentaries on weight loss say that too.

Re: How does Rock stay so thin and eat so little?
Well I don't have all the answers. But I will tell you what I've observed. Very fat people often do not make it past middle age, some even die in their 30s. You really don't see that many obese elderly people. But there are plenty of thin ones. So you shouldn't assume that people necessarily get fatter with age. It depends a lot on their lifestyle, habits, genes, etc. Your dad is not exactly obese and there are plenty of white and black guys like him too.Winston wrote:But rock you're a white expat, not a Taiwanese. What I've observed when around you is that you seem to move slowly and conserve energy. I've never seen you engage in any kind of vigorous activity other than an occasional minute or two of kicking and punching in the air or playing foosball or air hockey. But you inhale rich food in big portions and do that several times in a day.
I believe (though cannot prove it) that if I could put my brain and soul into your body for say 3+ months, I could get you down to a BMI of 25 with a much improved percentage of lean body mass. I start with 3 weeks of an Atkins type diet with some mild cardio (say 15 min of jogging) and say 10 minutes every other day of prison push-ups and pull-ups (alternating as many as I could do in that time frame resting as much as I needed between sets).
For phase 2, I would simply do a 3 month P90X program (intense exercise regimen 6 days a week and recommended diet). I would do it to the best of my ability even if I could only do a bit of each exercise in the beginning weeks. By month 2, I would be seeing amazing results both performance wise and in my body measurements and appearance.
It's really just a matter of commitment and dedication. If you don't have that kind of willpower, then you will remain a fat ass, simple as that. But if it's important enough to you, it's definitely doable.
The thing is Winston, you are more of a thinker than a doer. That even goes for Happier Abroad. Your not exactly the most well travelled guy on the forum even though you are the figurehead of the movement.

As I've said previously, you shouldn't eat until you're full, nor should you snack just because you're hungry.Winston wrote:Every time I go out with Rock, I notice that he eats so little and stays so thin. That Japanese proverb in the link sums it up quite well:momopi wrote:As I've said previously, you shouldn't eat until you're full, nor should you snack just because you're hungry.Winston wrote:Every time I go out with Rock, I notice that he eats so little and stays so thin.
