Alcohol use demolishes testosterone levels

Post by WilliamSmith »

I've been on a streak of drinking low-ABV homebrew and burning the midnight oil doing expat research lately, and noticed my sleep quality went way down.
I've also been looking into ways to max out all-natural testosterone levels so I can stay as muscular as I can for the rest of my life, and I found this article quoted below:
Apparently drinking alcohol demolishes your testosterone levels if you drink regularly.
Also, he totally nailed it about how a lot of us who came from towns or cities with a macho drinking culture got introduced the idea that drinking and smoking a lot would make you more of a man. Well, I've done a lot of that before and managed to avoid "gender confusion," but looks like the science is clear that the exact opposite is the case, and drinking and smoking will lower your tesosterone, mess with your gonads, and do all other kinds of nasty !@#$.
I'm going to try and knock it off completely until I'm sleeping like a rock again and have all the muscle I need, so that when I get older and grizzled I can be as pumped up as Mel Gibson or Vince McMahon in my senior years, LOL.

I have studied drinking, and I have come to the conclusion that it is the anti-muscle. As far as bodybuilding goes it's everything you would never want to have in you, and here is why:

Alcohol Myopathy

A recent study done by Muscle and Fitness showed that drinking caused an average loss of muscle somewhere around the 33% range. This is called 'alcoholic myopathy' and a decreased rate of protein synthesis has been liked to it.

Protein synthesis is important in the building of new muscle, so not only does alcohol destroy previously existing muscle, it also robs your body of the ability to produce any more muscle.

Lets talk about fat loss for a minute. Alcohol is empty calories, 7 calories per gram to be exact. And it slows your metabolism, a pretty mean combination. So while you are drinking, your half-assed metabolism has completely given up on burning fat, and is just trying to keep up with the flood of extra calories!

It Lowers Testosterone

But the biggest kick about alcohol for us guys is it lowers testosterone levels! Testosterone is what helps us build muscle. But that isn't all, it raises estrogen levels! My god guys, that means it's turning us into a women, no kidding. Bitch tits and changes in body fat storage all throughout the body are possible! This is insane, and people do this to their bodies for pleasure? Testosterone levels appear below average even up to a week later. So if you are going out and getting drunk every weekend, your testosterone levels may not have been normal for quite some time.

Stock up on ZMA it may be the only thing to help you, besides quitting of course. Dehydration is a side effect of drinking as well. Alcohol is a diuretic which makes you want to piss, over and over and over, which is removing all the water from your body. Hangovers are caused by this. Hangovers are cause by dehydration, and the lack of essential vitamins and minerals in your body which alcohol flushes out.

Also if you drink more alcohol than your body can process, the toxins build up, cause the "sick" feeling. Dehydration is also bad on the muscles considering muscle grow best when consumed in water. Which is how creatine works. Take away that water, and your muscles don't have a happy growing environment. And considering that most people are dehydrated most of their lives anyway, because the average person doesn't drink enough water, it makes you wonder just how smart it is to remove the little water they do have.
...
Long term effects include the body's fat storage deposits to change into a more female mode (change your body's fat storage from the gut to your hips and ass for example) liver cancer and death. All this over a drug which has a primary purpose of making your turn off that part of your brain which says "Think about what you are doing first".

But "It Makes You A Man"

The annoying thing is people who believe drinking "makes you a man" (I have heard this many times before) or people who give it up for health reasons are retarded. Oh yeah, drinking makes you a man, a fat man. But in reality, drinking can start turning you into a women, kind of funny in it's own little way. It isn't all bad though, going out and drinking once in a while isn't going to kill you, especially if you are young.

Professional bodybuilders tend to say the thing they regret is that they didn't enjoy themselves when they were younger. Its important to have fun, but there is a balance that young people don't seem to get down. But as long as you leave this article knowing a little more about what alcohol can do to you, the point of this article was fulfilled.
P.S. I also used that ZMA stuff he mentions in the article back in my 20's and it got me such deep sleep it was almost too intense. (ZMA is a blend of natural minerals, not some weird GMO thing.)

I'm still eventually going to need to try all the cool different kinds of Japanese beer they have when I get out there, but think I'll take a shot at "tea-totaling" until I GTFO of the States and get over there.

Vince body looks like shit now, I saw him when he tried to wrestle Steve Austin last year I think, and he removed his suit jacket, his muscle was flabby. Arnold Swartzeneigger started to look like that too after awhile. Stalone from what I hear has done a lot of surgery on himself to maintain all that mass he's still got while some guys that use to be ripped and buff look like garbage now.

I very rarely drank any booze from since I was a late teenager since I don't like the taste, cost or effects of alcohol.

I also hate people getting into drinking when they are teens without any thought of its consequences.

I wasn't a wine and beer drinker since I find the taste just nasty, but I enjoyed elegant drinks like an occasional campari, gin and tonic and my favourite Baileys Irish cream on ice.

I remember being tipsy about 3 times in my life during my twenties and didn't enjoy it.

I stopped altogether about 2006, although before that I was only having a few drinks a year.

I had a Baileys on ice and a local Filipino coconut wine in 2014 and they reminded me why I had stopped drinking earlier.

So I haven't had a drink since 2014, but only had a few a year before that anyways.

I'm very glad I never acquired the taste for beer and wine and stopped everything else long ago.

Now, the idea of having any alcohol is repulsive and inconceivable.

I don't mind being around people drinking in social situations but I hate being around drunk people.

I find girls and women that drink a major turn off.

I salute everyone that sees the terrible thing alcohol is and wants nothing to do with it like me.

It takes good taste, discipline and intelligence to avoid the evils of alcohol and most people don't have enough of them.

Even though Donald Trump and Joe Biden have obvious faults they are both non drinkers and I respect them for that.

I don't get the appeal of smoking at all. So people want to smoke so they can get addicted to smoking... so they can only feel normal if they have a cigarette. And cigarettes can give you lung cancer.

And cigars can give you mouth cancer. So can chewing and dipping snuff.

And that's why I went directly to the nicotine patch!

No, just kidding. The US almost wiped out young people smoking, and then they came out with vaping to make it even more addictive, and they can put drugs in the vape and people walking by don't know.

Anyway, I have always hated side-stream smoke when I was a kid and have never smoked a cigarette. I almost never drink. I've had communion wine, and we keep a little around to soothe a sore throat or certain ailments.

My testosterone level does seem to be higher now that I don't drink. I hate to admit it because as a man of Anglo-Celtic background, I regard alcohol is an essential part of our culture. Maybe drink when you're young and then quit at some point.

Completely agree, as older people get as more they realize that alcohol is only a habit which doesn't have any benefits.
It clearly does have some benefits.

@Cornfed
Mine is still high too even though I'm still an outright alcoholic, but that's largely because of genetic mettle (mixed blessing and curses at once from having tough alcoholics in my line, which both makes me inclined toward alcoholism but also with a much higher tolerance).
But yeah, every time I dry out for a period of time my testosterone very obviously goes WAY up to far higher levels.

And yes, it is part of our culture as Anglo/Celtic/Germanic mzungus, there is no question about that.
Just about all our barbarian ancestors drank a lot. :D
In Ghana they call it "alcoholism, the white man's disease," LOL.

Heh, calling that "easier said than done" is sort of an understatement.
I'm not crying about it, but if I had life to do over again I'd be way more strict about not doing any hard drinking partying and getting shitfaced drunk (which I unwisely did a whole lot of, LOL).
They say around 2-3 drinks for men is supposedly acceptable for longterm health, but I'm often way, way, over that. Tut. :)
