Check out this comment. So true.

What are they actually saying on the copyright infringement letters? Sounds like BS to me. Too many people download stuff now, they can't do shit. The ISP don't give a shit, it doesn't affect them, they even brought out fibreoptic broadband to keep up with the demand for bandwidth due to downloading.

The film industry needs to stop crying and bitching about it and change itself! Start by stopping paying actors ridiculous amounts like 30million for a movie, and 2 million instead (why the f**k isn't 2 million enough for prancing about reciting lines?) - that would probably count for all the money lost from illegal downloads on the film! These fuckers have the cheek to send their shit out to people! About 90% of movie I download, I would never have gone to the cinema for or rented or bought the video anyway.

Agreed. The less we coddle the media monopolies, the more they will turn away from the same dozen "stars" and open things up to new talent making lower-budget movies. Indies all over the place. This will give ordinary working actors more of a shot, also.

ANother change - If all TV were live or at least locally produced, btw, they would need 100 times as many TV performers, and again more people would get good jobs at a living wage, while the anchors making 70 million would have to settle for far less.

On music kind of the same. Copyright is great, but not eternal copyright. Shorter copyright terms like 20-30 years (like some countries) are plenty to get actual original artists paid. We would have a lot more live music everywhere if performers could play beatles tunes etc that have become part of the culture via public airwaves (free advertising). They could play in coffeehouses and small venues, without paying taxes to corporate trolls. Better for all except the trolls.

Some music copyright is (if I remmer) going to run like 120 years currently. They keep extending it.

If you look at recent movie series like "Twilight" and "Hunger Games", they're great examples of paying B-list actors and actresses less while reaping huge profits.

For the first Twilight movie, the 3 main cast members were paid $2 million. The movie only cost $37 million to make and it grossed $392.6 million at the box office.

In "Twilight Saga: New Moon", the 3 main cast members got a raise to $12 million. The movie cost $50 million to make and it grossed $710 million at the box office.

The star of "Hunger Games", Jennifer Lawrence, was paid $500,000 for her role. The movie cost $78 million to produce and has grossed $531 million at the box office so far. The producers have promised Jennifer Lawrence a bonus.

In comparison, A-list stars like Johnny Depp was paid $75 million for "Pirates of the Caribbean".

I had to take the GF's nephews to watch the Hunger Games this weekend. I didn't think much of Twilight saga, but did enjoy the Hunger Games because I'm a fan of dystopian themes. However, if you think about it, both Twilight and the Hunger Games basically use the same formula of girl torn between 2 love interests.
