I recently re-watched this film that I had first watched while getting drunk with friends as a teenager. It is set in an English borstal (i.e. prison for teenagers) in the 70s. Interesting stuff. It can be watched in its entirety here:
Like most prison movies, it makes you feel sympathy for the cons, and it does raise the question of how young offenders should be treated. My favorite character, outside of Carlin, was Mr. Sands, the screw who had it in for Carlin. Like almost all the screws, he comes across as a sadistic scumbag, but he reminds me of me.
Scum (1979 version)
