Gaming & New Releases

Post by Pixel--Dude »

We talked about video gaming ages ago @WilliamSmith and @Lucas88, we talked about GTA games, VR games and even MMO games incorporating the Skinner Box technique to manipulate gamers into paying and playing their games indefinitely. But what about games we play now? Modern games and new games we might be looking forward to?

I am a fan of the horror genre when it comes to gaming so I am looking forward to the Callisto Protocol, from the guy who made Dead Space.

It’s been years since I played a good horror game since Silent Hill or Resident Evil. Those games were good, but there hasn’t been any good horror games since then.

I also like narrative driven games like Until Dawn, where you have to try and get as many of your playable characters to the end as possible. There’s a new game with this mechanic coming out and is based on the serial killer H.H. Holmes who built the murder castle, a hotel full of secret passages, revolving walls and booby traps. The trailer for this game is here:

viewtopic.php?style=11&f=1&t=45789
Here is a link to a thread I made about the psychology of serial killers. In that thread is a link to a documentary I watched about the real H.H. Holmes and his Murder Castle. For anyone who is interested.

I also ordered the new Harry Potter video game for my daughter to play after Christmas since she likes Harry Potter, but I'll probably end up having a little play of it myself

They're the only games I've been interested in so far. What about GTA 6 @Lucas88? Think you will be giving it a go?

Have to say that one of my favourite games of all time is Fallout 4. I like the music and the freeroaming element to it.

I created 3 different characters with different abilities to give 3 different playstyles. Got a tank who smashes everyone to bits with his power fist, a sniper who picks enemies off from a distance and a serial killer character who can only wear a suit and use a knife to kill enemies.

Here is diamond radio for those who enjoy older classics, I wonder what some of the older members of the forum such as @gsjackson and @MrMan think to some of these classics, even if you guys don't enjoy gaming as such.

I do enjoy exploring the wasteland of Fallout 4 whilst listening to some of these older songs, but as I said in the GTA thread a while back, I still think GTA Vice City has one of the best soundtracks of all time with some 80s classics in there.

GTA6 is woke garbage, so hell no to that shit. Modern games are also just remakes of stuff from a long time ago and now they are so damn sorry they want to remake PS3 stuff too. I can't stand whats become of gaming.

@WanderingProtagonist I agree with you to an extent. I only like playing a handful of games these days. What console are you on?

To tell you the truth, I only like older games from roughly the PS2 era. I don't pay any attention to new releases.

I believe that older games are generally better. New games have better graphics, more realistic mechanics and impressive maps but older games often have far better gameplay and are therefore a lot more fun. Take the GTA series, for example. The 3D Universe era games like Vice City, San Andreas and even GTA3 are still extremely fun to play to this day with their action-packed missions and over-the-top humor despite their graphical and mechanical shortcomings. HD Universe era games like GTA5 on the other hand have much more boring gameplay. Their modern graphics and enormous life-like maps don't change anything. For me, graphics are overrated. I prefer PS2 era games any day.

As for GTA6, I'm somewhat interested in the game since it is rumored to be set in Vice City (a HD version of Vice City will be interesting), but if it's gonna be as woke as some people say that it is then I think that I'd just rather skip it.

My brother showed me an article about GTA6 which reported that there is not going to be any of the old-school GTA humor that makes fun of minorities and that instead there's only going to be "woke humor" that makes fun of so-called privileged White men. If this is true, then Rockstar can go to hell! The old-school GTA humor didn't just make fun of minorities; it made fun of everyone! That's why it was so awesome!

GTA6 is still going to obviously make a lot of money anyway because people are going to support rockstar no matter what they do. They are like one of the only gaming companies I believe is able to get away with being woke. I don't too much remember GTA having jokes about minorities, but I feel that too much protection given to blacks is the main reason so many whites felt the need to turn into cucks because of it. It's beyond me why anyone would want to live in a country where you can't criticize or make fun of one group but you're given freedom to do it to another. If GTA6 fails then maybe they'll go back to their roots, but I seriously have any doubts that they will.

But I do also agree that the older GTA games were a lot better, the games became more serious with GTA4, I honestly hated San Andreas because I couldn't stand the hood culture of the game. Most people argue it's the best GTA game ever, but it's one of the worse ones story and character wise. GTA6 just looks flat out queer as hell to me, I can't do it. You're also right about older games being a lot more fun, all they do is try to remake those games and they all turned out to be shit. I watched my brother play Resident Evil 2 remake, and compared to the original one on the PS1 it's complete TRASH.

The game is extremely dark so you can't see shit half the time because Capcom thinks pitch black equates to fear when really it's annoying as hell. Mr X can't be killed so he stalks you around 80% of the game which forces you to rush through it just to finish it. Zombies absorb bullets and can't be easily killed, weapons no longer feel as powerful as they use to even up close, you die almost instantly every time something attacks you, Claire is a foul mouth idiot and uses profanity A LOT yet she didn't use any at all in the original. And now I hear Silent Hill 2 is getting remade. I'm staying as far away from that as possible because I know it's going to get ruined by a bunch of liberal morons that Konami gave rights to develop it since it's not even being made by the original team. When I heard them say "we need to keep the game to modern standards" that right there made me want to punch a hole in the guy's face. Modern either means woke trash, or they're going to do something else to ruin it intentionally. Maybe have 7 year old Laura use profanity to show off her "toughness." But I certainly don't want to find out.

The older GTA games had jokes about gays and trannies as well as ethnic stereotypes. GTA3 had funny in-game advertisements such as Fudge Packing Corp and the flamboyantly homosexual gang boss El Burro of the Diablos, Vice City had that parody of a flaming gay guy on the radio who talks about dressing up in women's panties on 5th Street and eating his rusty brown's donut, Vice City Stories featured the flamboyant transsexual character Reni Wassulmaier who in one mission the player must escort to the hospital for her sex change operation  , and in GTA5 there's a postal company called "Post Op" and whose slogan reads: "No longer just mail" . But guess what? There were also many parodies of White conservatives/right-wingers and just about any other group of people too!

But the wokeists don't want to recognize that. For those assholes it's all about furthering a political agenda which seeks to demonize White people, straight people and men and elevate whatever ethnic and sexual minorities are the fashion du jour.

San Andreas is a good GTA game with vastly improved shooting mechanics and some very enjoyable and unique missions and a storyline and character development that are far more detailed that those of GTA3 and Vice City. But I can understand why you personally dislike it though. From what I've seen you write here on this forum, San Andreas will obviously ring a bit too close to home for you with its glorification of LA Black and Latino hood culture. I remember you writing about your uncle who got beaten to death in the hood after pulling out a gun on some violent thug who was for some reason unfazed by the weapon and also something about your cousin being in jail for murder if I remember correctly. I imagine that it would be hard for somebody who has actually experienced that kind of environment to like a game like San Andreas - unless they were a gangbanger themselves and loved that kind of culture. For me though, since I'm not from LA and have never lived in the hood, I just see the game as a not-too-serious parody and can therefore enjoy it.

I've actually started playing GTA3 again on the PS4 and am honestly enjoying it. Many people say that GTA3 is too basic and that Vice City and San Andreas are way better games, but I find GTA3 just as enjoyable to play and believe that it is a massively underrated GTA game, especially considering that it was released in 2001. The soundtrack is not as good Vice City's but it suits the vibe of the game quite well. The dark and gloomy Liberty City is not as vibrant or aesthetically pleasing as Vice City but, being based on New York, it's not supposed to look nice and it even has its own charm in light of GTA3 being such a dark game. GTA3's missions are also quite awesome. There are many fun unique objective-based missions that are actually quite challenging. When Vice City came out in 2002, many people turned against GTA3 and started saying that it was shit, but I still continued to appreciate the game and never thought that it lags behind Vice City that much. GTA3 is an underrated game which I recommend to any serious GTA fans - especially those who like the Italian mafia theme.

It seems to me that retro games are getting popular again. Loads of old games are being made available on PlayStationPlus and other platforms and many people seem to like them. My brother and I downloaded the Syphon Filter games from the PS1 era and played them recently. They were pretty good and a lot more fun to play than most modern games I might add.

No my Uncle wasn't in the hood when that happened, he was trying to prevent the father of his grand kids from taking his grand kids away from him because he and his woman (my Uncles daughter) left and abandon their kids with their grandparents. He became extremely attached to them and he didn't want to give them up when the parents came back to get the kids. So my Uncle got pissed, pulled out his gun and put it in the guys face. But he was disarmed and then beaten up real bad since he really had no intent on shooting him just wanted to scare him off. My Uncle didn't die right away, he died after he was taken to be with my grandmother so he died in Mississippi at her house rather than in Texas where the beating took place. My other Uncle was angry and wanted revenge for this but changed his mind. It was also my oldest sister that went to prison for murder. Of course these aren't reasons for me not liking GTA San Andreas, its more or less I just couldn't stand the ghettoness of the game and characters. When I bought Saints Row 2 and 3 I hated that shit even more because those games tried so hard to be hood like it was embarrassing and cringe as hell especially if you played as a female character. From what I hear GTA6 is a completely different game and I do hope the woke garbage backfires on them for this.

Old games aren't really making a come back...They are getting remade over again, at least all the popular ones are. But I hate remakes and refuse to touch them after seeing how a lot of them turned out. They get updated graphics, but everything else about them is trash and can never touch the originals. Final Fantasy 7 Remake looks polished, but compared to the original it's garbage. They took out all the humor, and even though Barret always used profanity. I think he does it a whole lot more now, in the original games they would do it like this in the text because it would be funny "You Spikey haired ^#%$!@" Rather than "You spiked haired asshole" when they did it in that censored scribbled way it was hilarious. I don't think they did it to censor the game but because it was funny.

But from what i was told the crossdressing scene was no longer made into a joke, they made it into something to be all proud of :? so when people try to say that Japan doesn't do anything woke or that they avoid it. It's BS, because they make games for Westerners more than they make them for Japanese people. They are going to follow Western trends due to how stupid they are in their current level of thinking vs the way they were making games years ago before the West became the influence. Back in the day Japan were the influences, but not anymore. This is why you have so many characters using profanity in everything now. When Japan was running the show, characters weren't cursing all the time, now it seems like every character has this terrible trait.

I know I swear myself quite a lot, but this is due to poor impulse control, bitterness, and just overall bad mood management so I tend to just throw out swear words a lot without thinking. That doesn't mean I want every damn character doing it though. When I watched my brother played RE2 Remake, Claire shouted "Move bitch!" while she was shooting at the zombies and I'm like "what?" Then she called the Chief Irons guy a muther f***er.....That's when I knew Capcom f***ed up with those characters because she never did that in the original one. Jill does it even more I believe, but it's just flat out horrific writing. That's why I want them to leave Silent Hill 2 alone, Jame's never used profanity...Sadly these edgy retards are going to make him.

I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your uncle, man. That's really tragic. :(

I get what you mean about how the setting of a game can totally turn you away from it. There are games and movies that I could never possibly play or watch because I don't like the setting or the cultural vibe. I too am quite particular about this. I don't mind the hood culture of San Andreas because I find African American culture hilarious in general and the game is just an over-the-top parody of ghetto life (even though in real life hood culture is undoubtedly unpleasant and a serious problem and certainly not something that I'd want to experience myself) but I could never like the movie Snatch for example because the annoying London accent of the main characters and overall dreary UK vibe of the movie would piss me off too much. I watched it with Pixel--Dude and at his behest but, although the movie is well-written, I can't stand the culture in which it is set and so I cannot like it. Same with a lot of Japanese stuff. A lot of Japanese stuff that so many weabos dickride just seems a bit too nerdy and gay to me. I fell out with Japan a long time ago and now can't stand the Nippon vibe. My favorite animated movie is actually a Brazilian one with Western aesthetics called Rio 2096: A Story of Love and Fury. Most Japanese anime just doesn't resonate with me at all. I think that our preferences are all to do with resonance.

Aren't many old games being played again due to their availability for download on platforms like PlayStation Plus? I don't mean remakes; I mean the original games themselves.

While people are sort of replaying them yes, I meant like developers are trying to cash in on the remake trend because they fear taking risk and believe people are stupid enough to keep rebuying the same game. Capcom remaking all the Resident evils is an example of this, except I doubt they will remake 5,6, outbreak, and all the others. This isn't something they will be able to rely on forever though and most people are disappointed with the remakes of classics. I'm not aware if people are downloading a lot of the classics though. I do wish the remake trend would die. Also, what is Nippon vibe?

@WanderingProtagonist I actually liked Resident Evil 2 remake. Even though it is a modern game and the graphics are improved I think the voice acting is still stupid. There was a scene with Leon where some reporter asks him to let him out of his cell and Leon tells him he will have to ask his boss first. would anyone even give a shit about what their boss thinks in a zombie apocalypse?! It's not like he's going to continue working there afterwards is it?!

My brother hated the Remake compared to the original. Shitty lighting with too much damn darkness which wasn't even scary but a pain in the ass obnoxious over done hindrance on where to go and how to find things. Plus Mr. X harassed the hell out of you and forced you to play the game in a speed run fashion because he limited your ability to even explore. The original games are always going to be superior over these shit remakes. From what I've been told RE4 will have the same damn sorry ass pitch black environments forcing you to rely on a flash light...This mechanic is so overused there's no point in any other horror game even going in this route. A lot of the environments in the old game even looked better than the changes they made in the Remake. Most of the areas in the police station had such a bland appeal to them in the remake compared to the pre-rendered environments they had in the PSX version.

Remakes are just too well polished graphical wise to some extent but boring and lack enjoyment compared to the older games. FF7 is ten times better than the Remake with it's cartoony appeal to it vs it's realistic remake tone that feel as if it lost a great deal of it's charm when they gave the characters voices and switched everything to be more serious. The original was able to blend both comedy and seriousness quite well, but these remakes make it impossible to even do that because the graphic makes everything too realistic looking with the comedy feeling more like a forced in thing compared to how well it carried the original game.

I finally acquired a Playstation 5 and it's stunning.

I mainly play Modern Warfare II. It was playable on the Playstation 4 but the menus and load times are many times faster on the Playstation 5. Ground war is incredible - like being in a war movie. My dream is they'll one day expand the AI so they'll be a tonne of civilians running around like there were in GTA 5.

As well as being a monster gaming machine, Youtube looks much better and is much faster than it is on my Samsung TV. It also comes with Twitch and a load of anime streaming services.
I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

Hey guys, do you think that Rockstar will ever bring out remasters of Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories for PS4/PS5 like they did with the GTA Trilogy?

LCS and VCS are prequels to GTA3 and Vice City respectively. They were originally released for the PSP and then ported to the PS2 but no PC versions were ever released. Because of this these two prequels are less-known GTA games. VCS in particular is an underrated gem.

I've played both games on PS2 but the poor graphics and the clunky control scheme are a nightmare. I would instantly jizz in my pants if these game - especially VCS - were remastered for today's consoles with improved graphics and a modern control scheme like that of the GTA Trilogy.

VCS is as awesome as the classic Vice City. Its soundtrack is like that of Vice City but on steroids with Dio's Holy Diver on V-Rock (and also Dokken ffs), some relatively unknown but groovy R&B, Latin classics such as Celia Cruz and Tito Puente, and a whole load of quintessential 80s masterpieces. Its missions are some of the most unique and challenging in the 3D Universe era. And, on top of that, its rendition of the Vice City map is arguably more interesting than that of the original game.

LCS on the other hand is a mediocre GTA game with a boring simplistic plot, an abundance of mostly mediocre missions, and a mostly uninspiring soundtrack. However, this game might appeal to hardcore GTA fans who want to return to Liberty City with more missions. If you take it as simply a mediocre DLC for GTA3 and don't expect too much from it, then it's an okay game.

I did get an Oculus to mess with VR boxing and it's pretty neat, but for other games so far I just don't engage with stuff like I once did as an enthusiastic retro gaming boy in the more innocent 80s and 90s in my childhood and teen years. The racing games on it are pretty neat but are just kind of a frustrating compromise to keep myself off the bottle on those unfortunate nights when there's no woman in my arms.
Oh, FYI you can also get a ton of fun free games that are sometimes just as good as the commercial offerings in the so-called App Lab and sites like this:
https://sidequestvr.com/apps/applab

I've never been into GTA since I always associated it (kind of like gangster rap) with watching the youth run themselves down the tubes and ruining their lives (including numerous ones who went to prison or messed themselves up with drugs). Sorry to sound like a homophobic cisgender male version of what I believe is known as a "Debbie Downer." :D

Back to the positive side:
If any of you get an Oculus, try putting the headset with "Epic Roller Coaster" "Secret Cave" on your girlfriend while you're giving her a good nailing from behind, LOL. I suggest you start her on the course first and encourage her to just surrender to the experience, since after that the track loops seamlessly for as long as you like.

GTA probably will never go back to what they were before. But I have to admit I had zero fun at all with GTA5, it was released during a very depressing moment in my life I never recovered from. But even so I still had a tough time enjoying the game. GTA6 looks even worse. Who knows if they will try to remake all these GTA games though, they would be expensive as hell to remake because each one would be as if they were making a new GTA game due to the size of the maps some of these games were. They would probably try to expand upon them too, but the games would end up as woke as the sixth one since I've heard the original guys behind GTA are gone or got terminated.
