This documentary on men who pursued women through mail order bride agencies is pretty interesting but in the end it seems like a scam (the agency makes big bucks and the guys aren't guaranteed anything).

This is an old video clip, seen about 4 years ago.
About these services, you don' really need them. Better spend your money for yourself, or get on an airplane and look around ... much cheaper I guess, don't pay for agents.
It makes however sense to look around for contact in foreign countries using the internet by yourself - you might meet people you cannot meet otherwise.
But to pay an agent for a promise to introduce you to foreign women?
I think the agent is often also tricked by women who give deliberately wrong information about themselves. Pictures of profiles are outdated, liars who are not marriage-minded at all but merely interested into party-life and money and so on. Marriage introduction business is a grey zone.

I have now lived abroad for ten years and now understand what madness it is to bring back women from places like Russia, Thailand, China etc to places like Ohio, Oklahoma, rural Queensland, Yorkshire etc etc without knowing anything about the culture where she's from.
Also, there is nothing finer in a mans life than seeing (in my case...) a Chinese girl fall in love with you, or on discovering she has a massive crush on you - the dopey silly way she is around you - you could never experience this going on some daft romance tour and you would need to live here for a lengthy period of time as that is how long it takes.
If one is serious about going to Russia, Thailand, China, the Philippines etc - then take a year or two off and go and live there and meet them organically. A wife is going to be sharing everything with you - so this is important not to just spend two weeks and a load of emails on this endeavour. A lot of what Yohan says actually. That's bang on the money for me!

You can also get connected to the expat or immigrant community from your target country and ask if someone has any cousins, nieces, etc. to match you up with. My wife has occasionally shown friends of ours her single cousins' pictures on Facebook. There are some cultures where setting up a cousin, niece, or nephew is not that unusual of a thing. These guys were probably willing to look because my wife is pretty, cooks well, etc. The ol' 'Does she have a sister?' thing. She has a few really nice looking cousins, but none of these things have worked out. I can think of a couple of them who are nice-looking who would probably make very good wives, and there are a couple I can think of who are good-looking but who I do not know enough about otherwise.
If you were going to that country anyway, this would really make sense and might actually work out. But this is not something to do if you are looking to go fornicate. They probably wouldn't like it if you were lining up women to meet, either.
Koreans have a match-making culture, but I'm not sure how well foreigners fit into the system. I have known of a non-Korean who was matched up, and I was matched up on a 'meeting' with a very pretty girl once without even knowing that was what they were doing when I taught there.
