Getting Girls with Charm and Listening Skills, without Looks

When I was in Indonesia, I did a little side gig with this group of consultants. The one I initially spoke with sounded a little like my mother-in-law on the phone, except she spoke English. When I met her, she was a very attractive Filipina, probably a 9 for facial beauty. There were a pair of brothers who were the other consultants.

I got to know one of the brothers. He had actually brought the young Filipino woman over to Indonesia. He had asked her to marry him, but his mother disapproved. He was from a religious family. She wasn't Muslim, and his mother thought she was a 'party girl.' Indonesian parents have veto power over marriages in just about any culture I encountered there. I don't think the civil registrar would have done our paperwork if my wife's parents had disapproved. She asked about that.

So she ends up marrying another man there. She still worked with her former boyfriend and his brother. I talked with this man. I cannot really tell if a man is good-looking, but sometimes I can tell if a man isn't. And this was one of those men. Just the shape of his face, his nose...balding.. and not well-aligned teeth... and rather stout, even a bit chubby for an Indonesia. He looked like he could play a comic relief type character on an Indonesian TV show. My wife met him and I asked about his looks-- not good-looking. But if you talked to him, he would listen, give feedback, and he was really encouraging. He could make you feel like a million bucks. My wife spoke with him and commented on how he was not good-looking, but he was very charming.

I remember he was talking on the phone with a woman during Rahmaddan, and he asked her if she wanted to break the fast without eating or drinking. There was a third activity that Muslims could not do during daylight hours during Rahmaddan, and he was hinting at that. Finally, he did get married to a woman who was maybe an 8 from some angles.

I was just thinking about him being able to get a really good-looking Filipina girlfriend. He has reasonably high status while living in the Philippines. He had a special ID that got him a little extra attention at clubs. If the woman was a 'party girl' at that time, then maybe he had status going for him in addition to a charming personality. I think both his parents were well-to-do. He might have had a little status, or at least have been able to communicate that if he chose. But I think it was more the charming personality and being a good listener that helped him with the opposite sex.
