The West 1800's - Best documentary series

Post by Winston »

I've been watching this documentary series called "The West" produced by Ken Burns and narrated by Steven Ives. It's the BEST documentary series about 1800's America I've ever seen. A true masterpiece. It really captures the essence of what was going on back then, when America was much more wild, free and lawless. And it shows a much more interesting and exciting America than that of today. The good, the bad, and the ugly of America's expansion into the West is told well in this series. Every episode is a masterpiece.

It's also very educational, showing many vintage photos from the 1800's, and has great soundtracks with Native American chants and music. You really get a feel for the America of old. The stories are told so well, which are moving, romantic and tragic at the same time. Watching this series is like listening to a great storyteller. Very moving. One of the best documentary series I've ever seen.

If any of you are interested in history, this is a must see. Watching these will also make you very knowledgeable about American history. Fortunately, the series is on YouTube. The episodes are here:

You can also buy the series on Amazon.com. There are many raving reviews of it there.

Btw, Ken Burns is an award winning documentary filmmaker and the same guy who produced that Mark Twain biographical documentary I raved about before, when I said it was the BEST and most moving biographical documentary I have ever seen. It moves you to tears and captures the essence of Mark Twain and his life. See my description of it here:
