"Like most sex predators, he is identified age-wise with the victim. This is what you see with pedophilia, with offending patterns, with teachers who have sex with students."

"I understand what you're saying, and I'm glad that you are looking out for your daughter. You SHOULD be pissed off if some 37 year old teacher sets her up for something like this. The man was in a position of trust and authority and it sounds like he misused that position to say the least.
But he's not a "pedo" as you claim. That's a serious charge completely separate from sexual attraction to a girl/woman who's sexually mature. This is not about legal loopholes. In most states it's still illegal to have sex with or demonstrate intent to have sex with minors. We have to draw a legal line somewhere for this, and 18 or 16 seems to be the consensus. If a 41 man, not a teacher, meets an 18 year old only after her 18th birthday, and they have a sexual relationship, there is nothing illegal about this. Disturbing to some, perhaps, but not illegal and not even morally "wrong" if the two are consenting adults.
Throwing the term "pedophile" around like so much confetti is a dangerous game to play. It's a weapon in the Feminist arsenal used to shame anything approaching a May-December relationship (provided the man is the older party - it's almost always okay if the woman is older). That's why it's important to keep in mind that sexual attraction between two sexually mature individuals is far more "normal" we'd like to think. I'm not looking to excuse all primal impulses either - we put constraints on our impulses as a measure of protection. Up until recently that included homosexuality. Our society has now (on balance) wagered that homosexuality between consenting adults is not threatening. Astonishingly, it's becoming more acceptable for gay men and women to have the freedom to do what they want "behind closed doors" than it is for a 35-40 year old man and an 18-22 year old woman.
Understand I am not excusing this guy - he was a teacher and was duty-bound not to exploit the trust bestowed in him by the school, the kids, and their parents. (At least he quit his job.) He was more than free to find another profession and hit on legal young women at the mall in his free time. I just don't believe in tossing around the "pedophile" term - it's a serious accusation reserved for a far, FAR worse crime. It's become way too casually thrown around these days, and that's what makes MY blood boil, because when it's misused like that it detracts from the sickening deeds of the real perverts and psychos out there. Keep that in mind the next time you instinctively glance at a chick's cleavage or a$$ only to realize she's around 17. You're just being a man - and when you exercise restraint you're just being a law-abiding, responsible man."

There is nothing wrong with 41 year old guy dating a 18 year old within of itself. But add that she's a student and he's a married teacher with children..that's another ballpark right there. Teachers hooking up with students happens a lot more than people think. I heard quite a few these stories back in high school (i'm 23 btw) but none of these stories made headlines. Though it's hard to know if they were true or not except for one. My sister's classmate asked her history teacher in private about a "Mr. E", who pregnanted and married one of his students. The teacher said ":x SHHHHHHHH! " Usually these stories are kept under wraps by school adminstrators but when concerned parents/outsiders get involved, that's when it gets out.

My plan for my future wife is to keep track of my students who are interested, and then when they leave my school, to begin to date them (if she wishes, of course). They will be the age of 18 to 20 at that time.zboy1 wrote:Ladislav, how can you condone the teachers behavior? I find it disgusting that a married teacher over 40 years old is having a relationship with a teenage girl that was once his student! Most likely, he had a relationship with her when she was around 15 or 16 years old. What about the emotional effects this relationship will have on his children and family? He leaves them in the dust for his former student that's young enough to be his daughter! Absolutely reckless behavior imo.
I am 52, and there are about 20 girls that I teach who obviously are interested in me here in China
I know that such behaviour repulses many young men such as you.
Your attitude is the same that other, young, ESL teachers (and most young men in many nations) have:
Example-
"That guy was a sleazeball, He was 33 and dating 18 year old girls..." is a common value held by young, male ESL teachers.
It's held because I, and Ladislav, are competing against you for these girls.
You will deny this of course, and state that 'I just think it's disgusting, etc.' but the fact is that you don't want to lose out to someone who is your father's age.
Trust me, if you kept it together you would date 18 year old girls when you were 52 (or 72 as the case with 3 friends of mine), too.
There is no such thing as 'an age appropriate relationship' and I could give less than no care what you or anyone else in the world thinks.
It's my life, and I am only here once (as far as I can recall).
Dating an 18 year old is not a problem. Being 18 years old is essentially a young adult. Dating a 14 or 15 year old while your an adult with a 20 to 30 year age difference is something else entirely.ph_visitor wrote:My plan for my future wife is to keep track of my students who are interested, and then when they leave my school, to begin to date them (if she wishes, of course). Big List of Female Teachers With Students
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that all was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, and make it possible.
