American Becomes Laughingstock of Canada After Letter to Editor Lamenting Lack of Handgun During Mild Confrontation

http://gawker.com/5932846/american-beco ... frontation

This story goes to show you how paranoid and unfriendly Americans have become:

Walt Wawra, a police officer from Kalamazoo, Michigan, was vacationing in Calgary, Alberta, with his wife Debbie when he encountered a situation that made him reach for his off-duty handgun.

But the weapon wasn't there because he had been told he has "no need to carry one in Canada." So he fired a letter to the Calgary Herald instead to complain about his inability to protect his family from the city's riff raff.

Case in point: While strolling through Calgary's bucolic Nose Hill Park, Wawra and his wife were suddenly confronted by two men who stepped in their path and, "in a very aggressive tone," demanded to know if the couple had "been to the Stampede yet" (the city's annual rodeo, which celebrated its centennial this year).

"We ignored them," Wawra writes, but "the two moved closer, repeating: 'Hey, you been to the Stampede yet?'"

That's when the 20-year police force vet got angry and "quickly moved between these two and my wife, replying, 'Gentle-men, I have no need to talk with you, goodbye.'" Walt and Debbie then continued on their way, leaving the Stampede Brothers behind looking "bewildered."

But what if they had done more than simply ask the same question twice and then move on? What then? Wawra reflects and concludes:

I speculate they did not have good intentions when they approached in such an aggressive, disrespectful and menacing manner. I thank the Lord Jesus Christ they did not pull a weapon of some sort, but rather concluded it was in their best interest to leave us alone.

Would we not expect a uniformed officer to pull his or her weapon to intercede in a life-or-death encounter to protect self, or another? Why then should the expectation be lower for a citizen of Canada or a visitor? Wait, I know - it's because in Canada, only the criminals and the police carry handguns.

The Calgary Herald confirmed that Wawra's letter is not a hoax and was in fact written for real by "a real person."

Canadians have taken to responding directly to Wawra's concerns using the Twitter hashtag #NoseHillGentlemen.

"Hey Walt. The 2 men approached you because in #Canada we're friendly to each other," wrote one Twitter user. "Think about it: the #NoseHillGentlemen encounter could've ended with two dead young men because of a psychotically suspicious gun owner," wrote another.

For his part, Calgary's own Charles Bronson remains defiant.

"What concerned me is two young men just approached us and stopped us, stopping us by being in our path, and [began] talking to us without even being welcome to talk to us. They just took it upon themselves to yell at us," Wawra told CBC News, adding that "he should have the right to protect himself if things had escalated."

American Cop In Canada Wishes He Had His Gun Because...

So let me get this straight...two Canadians were trying to be friendly towards a group of Americans asking them if they were going to the rodeo stampede--when one of the Americans (whose a cop), gets nervous and wants to pull out a gun and confront these two Canadian guys, and when he realized he had no gun with him due to the Canada's strict gun laws about concealed carry, writes a letter to the Calgary Herald and complains about the situation to the Canadian people. At first, Canadians believed the editorial written by this idiot is fake, but when Canadians are told this letter was written by a real American, he becomes the laughing stock of Canada and you know how Canadians love to ridicule Americans in the first place...smh, LOL.

Western cops are VERY paranoid. Because when they go through police training, they unlock their reptilian part of the brain and the force keeps the person in that state of mind... the primitive mindest of the western foot soldiers. This training regimen intentionally brings that part of the brain to the forefront, as a great soldier is ALWAYS a monster, never a human. Thus, the non-human behavior(attacking/killing innocent humans, stealing from humans, eager to bullying humans...) can be easily explained in different ways.

I remember one news story, where a western cop was surrounded by a bunch of unarmed, formal-dressed folk at a party... and he all of a sudden went BERSERK when someone asked about the police situation there!

Western offensive soldiers of any rank are trained to treat any confrontation, even non-violent ones, as a BATTLE WITH ONLY ONE OUTCOME, LIFE OR DEATH... Since these people usually have weapons, they choose to fight with the intention to KILL. Even if they don't kill someone, that doesn't mean they wouldn't have if the situation presented itself.

This is why I don't like western police/military, sans ex members who realized what they were doing.

All true CJ! American cops are the WORST though, followed by European cops with Asian cops (sans commie China) being the friendliest.

Handguns are legal to purchase and own in Canada. US Citizens are also permitted to bring their handguns to Canada. However the barrel needs to be at least 4.1" in length.

You can't carry guns with you everywhere you go.

That's what drone strikes are for.

Wow C.J, which unit were you with? You seem to know how military men are. Let me see, how did I handled a nonviolent confrontaion in Iraq, I think I didn't shoot the guy. Yup, pretty sure, didn't had the need or want to do it. Now if the guy was shooting at me, than yeah, I would shoot back. Everyone seems to think police and military have the same type of training or mindset, but it's totally different. One side they tell you how special you are and the other treats you like a maggot. One side they give you weapons with no training and how cool it is to have it. The other throws your ass in rough enviroment, no sleep and makes you wish you didn't have to carry 100lb of gear.

But hey, every job in the military is different. I was airborne, we were chilled and didn't act as what the media and movies portrayed us as "Monsters" Shit most of the veterans who join the police force are MPs. They hate grunts like me, cause we ain't paranoid and gun ho. So if two guys confront me and asked me about a stampede, I would've said no and ask where it might be. Cause I've been in worse situations, try sitting outside, chilling as mortars going off around you and not really caring. Everyone except the unit I was with were freaking out.

Sadly, units like mine make up about 10% of the Army, so yeah. There is a lot of paranoid guys, I remember having some airforce guy in the humvee with me. I was the gunner and he was freaking the f**k out when we were going to an outpost. Telling me to point my weapon on anything that moved, on people and shit. I didn't listen and a sgt told him to shut the f**k up.
