There is speculation about Ukraine sourcing gas supplies from Turkmenistan who is contractually committed to Russia.
This pit was dug & discovered by soviets & it caved in & became hazardous so they decided to ignite it to clear out the poisonios gas but it never stopped burning. It's been lit for 40 years now.
Ukraine relies on Russia for oil & gas. They turned to Turkmenistan for an alternative energy supply but got stopped dead in thier tracks. Basically Russia is playing mafia & saying you have to buy from us. It's like me selling you stuff from the grocery store for my own profit, whereas you can just go there & get it yourself. I say no papi, you buy from me or else!
