You need to fire your country while you can still afford to.

Soon people will be in a situation where they're too poor to live here and too poor to pay to leave. They're making a prison of this country for all but the most wealthy of individuals.

Stunned to see this.

They are clearly threatened and worried.

And stupid.

If I am made to stay, there will be trouble.

Homeland security just put you on the no fly and terrorist watch lists. There are no idle threats anymore.

I think it's time you woke up to the fact the conspiratorial side of history is your real history and the powers that be figured out long ago " Drum role once again please " by counterfeiting the money and not being audited they could rule the world! :P

This has already happened to many, perhaps most, people.

Four years ago renouncing your U.S. citizenship rightly cost you nothing. As you are forgoing all the "benefits" you were going to receive, renouncing all said benefits saves taxpayers money (unless, of course, you're one of those evil, greedy, rich people who pays more into the system than you get out).

Despite this being the case, in 2010 a $450 fee was slapped onto people to charge them for the "service."

Now, that renunciation fee was just jacked up 422% to $2350.

While rich people may be able to afford to pay the tax, poor people no longer have the "privilege" to renounce their citizenship.

This is clearly a punitive tax designed to punish people for leaving the supposed "Freest Country on Earthâ„¢."

If such hikes continue at the current rate, renouncing in 2018 may cost you ten grand.
To be honest, it does not make any sense to renounce the US-citizenship while still living within USA.

To renounce the US-citizenship makes only sense after relocation to a foreign country and after creating over there a financially stable long-stay condition with a new citizenship and with no intention to return to USA.

For people earning just average salaries in USA or overseas it is likely better to keep the US-citizenship and to fill in the tax-report every year - as there is not much what can be taxed anyway.

Has anyone considered the Peter Nolan option of strawman recapture rather than renouncing citizenship?

We know why the anti federalist demanded the bill of rights with the 2nd amendment to back up the 1st when they layed the foundation for this current monster..

Is there any chance that charging an exorbitant fee to renounce citizenship might be a violation of international law? I wonder if you could challenge this in the world court. This seems like a clear-cut human rights violation.

No, fees are not the problem. Nobody cares about that. Check out fees in UK, you will be surprised, how high they are. There are even Asian countries which do not allow you to renounce citizenship.

About USA, I see no reason why you should renounce citizenship anyway, except if you are really very rich.

The fact that there is any fee shows that the scum regard people as their slaves and require them to purchase their own freedom.
