With the JLTV. And who could dispute the wisdom of buying light trucks with some armor plating for the modest price of, at a conservative estimate, $400k each?

Re: US military to replace the Hummer
I have read in the Army Times a couple of years ago that Oshkosh and some other major defense contractors were competing to replace the Humvee. I wish I and my unit had rode in an ARMORED Hummer or even a South African-style (Mamba, Rhino or Buffalo) vehicle into Iraq. But instead during my combat tour (back in 2003), we were issued inferior protection. This included a Kevlar helmet and flak vest designed only for shrapnel/fragments NOT Ballistic or BULLETPROOF PROTECTION. If not against IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). Also we had SANDBAGS placed on both the floor and hood of our vehicle. And with NO metal doors but just a canvas!!!! Not to mention my section/unit still rode around in Vietnam-era Duce-in a Half trucks!!! I would think that since America spends more on it's military than all other industrialized nations combined (including Russia, China, India, the U.K., France, Japan, etc.) that they could easily afford to equip every soldier, sailor, airman, and marine with the right type of armor going into a warzone!!!!
However, when our government is serving the interest of the MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL/CONGRESSIONAL-COMPLEX, greedy INTERNATIONAL BANKERS (including the Rockefeller/Rothschild owned Federal Reserve-America's PRIVATE CENTRAL BANK), BIG OIL, MAJOR CORPORATIONS, and SECRET SOCIETIES ( Skull &Bones, CFR, TLC, Bohemian Grove, The Illumanti, The Vatican/Jesuit Order, Knights of Malta, Bilderbergers, etc.) the troops are nothing more than "DUMB, STUPID ANIMALS TO BE USED AS PAWNS FOR FOREIGN POLICY" as the infamous NWO minion Henry Kissinger once said. Not to mention when we had both WAR-PROFITEERS AND CHICHENHAWKS as politicians such as George W. Bush and Richard Cheney (who by the way had FIVE DEFERMENTS TO DODGE THE DRAFT DURING THE VIETNAM WAR) and who also still had STOCK OPTIONS IN HALIBURTON (Both a major defense contractor-KBR and oil industry giant). In addition, we also had the good-for-nothing Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld (who back on December 20, 1983 had been photographed shacking hands with then dictator SADDAM HUSSEIN as a TOP SECRET ENVOY for RONALD REAGAN). And I will never forget the sorry excuse he gave to a National Guardsman for not rightly equipping the military by saying:" ...you go in with the Army that you have". By the way both Rumsfeld and Cheney were long time associates dating back to the Nixon Administration and members of the neo-con think-tank The Project for the New American Century (PNAC)(along with George's brother, then Florida governor, and now 2016 Presidential candidate JEB BUSH).
Sorry for the long rant and going way off topic. But H.A. is one of the few forums in which I could vent and speak freely (verses the yahoo forum).
However, I do like the original Humvee or H1 look as a CIVILIAN model verses the newer H2 or H3. And of course Arnold Schwarzenegger was the first private citizen to every own a Hummer not shortly after the 1991 Gulf War. But anyway I say it is about time the troops were better equipped and protected for future conflicts.
