Yeah if you are gonna be a bank teller then of course they want someone who is responsible. I can see that. Even Police officers for when they confiscate money from ordinary citizens (theft).

For the average job though, there's absolutely no reason for this. This is probably the only country in the world where people arent allowed to "start over" fresh.

And how the hell are you gonna get a job to pay your bills when they wont give you a job cause you can't pay your bills?

Exactly! And it says up to 60% of companies are already doing this! Once I leave the US, my credit score (which is excellent) is going to tank. If I ever come back, I'd have a VERY hard time getting approved for anything at all. Does anyone else know of any country that runs this system of credit ratings, like the US does? It's been turned into a stick to beat people with, instead of helping them.

Why? I have been able to build mine up. Used all my credit cards overseas, paid them out of my bank account, all is well.

Well, my main beef was with the fact that companies are using this practice, which is unethical at best, and perhaps illegal at worst, especially at a time, when so many millions are without work.

To your question about credit, it was my understanding from past experience that once you no longer pay bills here, have no home, have no assets, etc., that your credit score falls. If you're able to keep yours up just by paying your credit card bills, then I stand corrected.

I do have a question about having an account here, though: I thought the wonderful "Patriot Act" mandated that you have to maintain a US residence/address in order to keep a bank account here. How do you do that, if you're not really here. Just lie, and say you live at your parents'/friend's/sibling's house? That sounds like it could open up a can of worms.

Well, I do live at my mom's address when I am in the US. When I opened my account I did live there permanently. I went back home three times last year. My mom is still there. I pay my credit cards through my bank account. If you have a credit card, you set up a payment system directly through your bank. And also, many banks do send credit cards overseas. Also, AmeX does the same.

I have a different opinion on this subject. I think there should be 2 tiers, one for small business, and another for larger businesses.

For small business with less than 50 (or fewer depending on your opinion) employees, I think the employer should have the right to set his/her own hiring criteria, with fewest legal restrictions. This means, if you open a restaurant and want to hire 10 pretty young blond waitresses, you should have the right to do so without fearing discrimination lawsuits.

But if your business has more than 50 employees, the company should not be allowed to discriminate unless if there's a specific job requirement. This includes people with criminal conviction records, if we want to re-integrate people out of jail into society, then we should give them jobs and a "normal" life.

To put it another way, if you bought a house and want to get a room-mate, you should have the right to specify what kind of room mate you want. That means if you want a male, female, straight, gay, whatever room mate, you should be able to specify it.

But if you run an apartment building, then you shouldn't be able to discriminate based on race, gender, sexual preference, etc.
