London, England, had its hottest day in recorded history on Friday when the mercury topped out at 37.8 C (100 F) at Heathrow Airport. The previous all-time record-high temperature was 36.7 C (98F) set on 1 July, 2015.
Some locations in France and Spain climbed above the 38 degree C (100 degree F) mark to end the week, including Paris, which reached 39 C (102 F) for about an hour.
Madrid hit 41.2 C (106 F) on Monday for only the third time in its history.
