Speaking of guns...Does anyone know how to legally buy a handgun in NYC? I would like to buy a gun, but I don't know how the process goes. Don't you have to go through some kind of training and certification first? I know for a fact concealed carry is not permitted in this stupid city. Also, the city makes it very difficult to obtain a license. Does anyone here on the forum live in NYC and have experience with the process.
zboy dont even think about it in NYC....you wont get it....unless youre an elite, mayor, or mafia....
plus when they reject your application like 99% of them no matter who legit....that rejection looks bad when you apply in other states.
florida is super easy to get & its recognized in 20+ states (not nanny state NY of course) you dont need to be a citizen of fla to get it either

marriage is a 3 ring circus: engagement ring, wedding ring and then suffering.
What people should be doing is buying them off the books from the mafia because the registered ones will be confiscated sooner or later.
Or maybe they want us to be armed to the teeth so we end up killing eachother once the trucks stop rolling and the food runs out..
zboy go to the local shop and get yourself a cheap rifle or shotgun, like a mosin nagant, (~$125) and while you're there ask them the procedure for handguns. The cheapest ($80-100) handgun is probably another "nagant", the revolver the cheka/kgb used to shoot people in the back of the head. It's not very versatile but you can buy several and arm your friends/family for the price of a more modern handgun/revolver. I want a double barrel shotgun but they're surprisingly expensive. The ones I've seen locally are like $700 which is more than a lot of more complicated (and useful) firearms. Unless you're Jason Bourne in which case you can take down a professional hitman with one.

I did a little research and here's what I found:
The Handgun Licensing Process in NYC is a Complex Maze
The NYC handgun license application looks deceptively simple. However, in reality, both the application, and the process itself can be daunting and tantamount to a mine field; not surprising, as the government's agenda quite often seems to be to dissuade and discourage you. Consequently, if you are serious about obtaining a handgun license or a rifle/shotgun permit in a New York City, you owe it to yourself to consider hiring an expert attorney in the field.
Here's another article I found that lists all the steps needed to get a license:

Onezero4u, you were right. What a fricken joke! Not worth going through an endless maze of paperwork, fees, and interviews just for a stupid license. I got better things to do then go through all the hassle.

If you're anal about getting a firearm without license or registration, you can buy muzzle loaders (black powder) that are not categorized as firearms by the Federal Government. There are some legal aspects to consider. By law the firearm is defined by the lower receiver piece, and other pieces are considered parts. So a muzzle loader must not share the same lower receiver piece with a "modern" firearm to qualify for the license/registration exemption.
It's relatively easy to convert certain black powder pistols to use cartridges. If you wish to do this, you must do your own research and not buy the wrong pistol. I will not assist you -- all the information necessary is avail on the web. I shoot muzzle loaders and would prefer to keep the sport "non-licensed", so please don't get any ideas about robbing banks with 'em. ;p
If a newbie were to ask me what gun he/she should buy, I'd tell them to start with a good quality .22 LR.
As of 2012, the State of CA has made it illegal to "open carry" pistols without permit. But if you have occupation justification (i.e. bail bondsman), it's fairly easy to obtain a permit to carry firearms openly (assuming that you're not a convicted felon). CCW permit, on the other hand, is much harder as it's issued by your local Sheriff's department and not the State, so it really depends on who's the Sheriff. LA County, for example, only issued 400 CCW permits. Their attitude is that CCW permit is a privilege and not a right, so unless if you can convince them with good reason why you need one, they won't issue it to you.
For those looking for shotguns, check your local skeet shooting range. Go into the office and look for bulletin boards where people post their for sale signs. Many people get into the sport and give up after 2 or 3 shoulder bruises.

Don't forget the ammo! If you can legally purchase a handgun in Arizona, no concealed weapon permit is required.
