I don't understand why people are so attached to their beliefs that they are unwilling to have them proven wrong. Wouldn't you rather know a truth you don't like, instead of believe a lie that you do like?
I am firm in some beliefs because I don't believe anyone has ever proven them wrong. But if I had just cause to doubt them then my degree of belief in them would go way, way down. Even if they were my favorite beliefs that made me happy, I would stop believing if they were shown to be logically impossible. I'd rather be proven wrong now so I can be right for the rest of my life rather than wallow in falsehoods and lies forever.
Logic and rationality are hardly considered good things by a lot of people. If you question any of the prevailing dogma, a dozen people will jump down your throat, spew logical fallacies, and pat themselves on the back for doing it.
Living and thinking this way seems almost insane to me.
