I live in China and have done so for over 15 years and met some crazy people out here but they thrive and are somewhat happy here but they are low level sufferers of autism/adhd/aspergers etc and they can move in and out and prosper and though I have met some proper madmen - they don't usually last that long - psychotic, PTSD from military service, mentally ill in the most severe sense where one took his own life before he was deported out of the country and back to America to a future of homelessness - I used to think I wasn't the full shilling before I met some of these characters and I now realise I am perfectly normal!
That's interesting, @yick. I haven't been to China for quite some time, despite living at a couple of hours distance from it. I have been to Taiwan and Hong Kong multiple times, but never to the Mainland.

So, forgive me if my knowledge is second hand, gathered from the multitude of videos I watch about the state of China. Most of them are "polarizing", that's for sure. Long term enthusiasts-turned-detractors SerpentZa and LaoWhy keep posting about the hypocrisy and contradictions of Chinese society, citing their many ticking time bombs and the fact that, under Xi Jinping's presidency, the anti-foreigner, or anti-Western sentiment has been dialled up a few notches.

Some other, probably more randomic travellers, wax lyrical about the hyper-tech cityscapes of Shenzhen, Chongqing and similar, basically glimpses of what Japan could have become had they stopped growing 35 years ago. They show modern, efficient infrastructure, amazing architecture and well-dressed people crowding amazing-looking malls and public spaces.

I am sure that the truth, as usual, is in the middle. I have already decided I would like to spend at least a month travelling China next year, work commitments permitting. For "closed" some say it is, just a few weeks ago they started allowing citizens from 38 world countries, including Italy, to enter their border Visa free for 90 days.

As for the variety of human specimen living in China, I have no doubt that that is the case. If China is anything like Japan, their "live and let live, so long you don't offend our Government" would probably ensure a good share of Western misfits could find more freedom and relief in China than in their home countries. For those without major skills, the prospects of trading their native English proficiency for a living wage, is probably still there.

May I ask you what you do to support yourself in China, @yick? I am genuinely interest. Feel free to PM me. Grazie!

I took Winston's advice and looked at @Tsar's recent posting history, just to refresh my memory. As I wrote, he had indeed stopped talking about sex with underage girls. Alas, the topics he switched to are not much better. Those recent posts confirm @PublicDuende's diagnosis: namely, Tsar has mental issues.
It's always hard to judge people from their online personas. In case of Tsar, his writings are at least a genuine expression of his "mood of the moment". A schizophrenic and autistic personality will always be subjected to tragic ups and downs, high-flying delusions and rare (but painful) hard landings.

What frustrates me about Tsar is that, behind that sick shell of his, lies what I consider a very decent human being. His schizophrenia can be kept at bay and his autism is crippling, but not to the point where he cannot have a functioning existence, even a productive one, in this society.

But no, he prefers, and always will, to believe his delusions are real, in fact are what set him apart from the rest of mankind, rather than taking some medication, gliding back to earth and starting to behave like one of us. For how much he hates America, he comes across as the embodiment of American exceptionalism: he is special, he is always right and his life mission is to prove that his is somehow spiritually superior to each and every one of his "enemies".

SerpentZa and his daft mate aren't the best guides to visiting China, well, their latest videos are awful - his popularity has grown which shows how many people want to listen to misery but SerpentZa and his mate did well out of their lives in China until they shut down the VPN's - which is a problem and a pain in the arse but it is just one of the cons we have to put up with, there are many things for it. Serpentza's earlier videos were very good indeed but I suppose misery loves company.

China is amazingly easy to live in - transport, getting around, food, things to do - and it is a massive country, a sub continent with many different kinds of people and languages and there are regional differences too. People are a lot more laid back in the south than in the north, that is really noticeable - southerners I tend to find have a live and let live attitude to life and are very laid back - I was in Jiangxi last year and that was very noticeable compared to Henan which is where I spent most of my time in China where people are a lot more boisterous and aggressive - so, there are many versions of China so you have to pick and choose because it is so big and there is so much to see, what do you want to see when you come here? The modern mega cities are all here and the charming smaller cities where there is a slower pace of life, the countryside and the tea farms, you can go to Manzhouli on the Russian border or to the North Korean border - travelling is like I said easy and the train services are amazing! Buses run everywhere and cost something like 20 pence, taxis are 20 RMB or less for a trip, everything is affordable and it is very safe. It's not a police state either, these are the nicest cops you will ever meet and a cop has never stopped me here - mind you, I am a foreigner so that is part of it but I can go and live my life without hassle.

China has changed since COVID - people don't care about foreigners anymore - even where I am, nobody gives zero f***s about my presence whereas a few years ago, people would stare, take pictures, say 'herrrro' nobody does that anymore which is fine by mine. I am just treated normally though people here are nice and will try to help, a lot of the signage is in English or in pinyin so it is hard to get lost, many people speak some English and they are genuinely helpful and accommodating and it is a very safe place, there's no 'no-go' zones. Menu's, ATM's, anything that is a machine has an English option.

I teach at a university which is where there is a big demand - still! I make a decent living out of it and save most of it. I won't be here forever, I will have to leave at 65 at the latest but China has changed me and changed my life, I am a completely different person to the one that first came here, a better person, I am more happier and relaxed and this place cured me of my depression but if you want any info or advice then let me know and I will drop you a PM.

Yeah Pixel Dude told me similar things about Tsar. I feel sorry for him if he cannot fix his mental issues. Is he at least functional and can take care of himself and do basic chores and errands? If he won't take his meds, maybe you can suggest he try taking something called Lithium Orotate. @Mr S recommended it to me. It's cheap and is only 10 dollars a bottle and does help calm down your mind a lot and balance your brain and neurons. It's a cheap natural alternative to those who don't want to take psych meds. I tried it for a few months and it does calm down my mind and stop me from overthinking or over-obsessing so it's good for those with OCD symptoms and anxiety. They sell it on Amazon and other big retail sites. You can Google it too. Even medical websites recommend it and say that it does help those who can't control their own mind.

    @yick

I heard Winston Serpentza has gone totally negative on China too. What happened to him? He used to like China and even found a hot wife there. Why would he betray China like that? What went wrong?

Btw Pixel Dude suggested I make you a moderator but I told him that Yick probably isn't interested because he is independent and prefers to be non-attached and watch everything from afar and not get involved. That's my impression of Yick. Is that right Yick? lol

China kept closing down VPN's so he couldn't upload his videos onto Youtube, they were also f***ing around with his visas so he went to America and to make money 'exposing' China which has got him a load more viewers, it was a shame because he had a really good channel about China, one of the best but it seems he now wants to cater to all these people who want to watch anti-Chinese rhetoric. I read somewhere that he is in the process of divorcing his second wife - he has had two wives, 'beer girl' who was from Hong Kong and a doctor - forgot her name but he has had a kid with her.

If that's so then he sounds like a grifter. That's sad because he's now ruined his relationship with China and they must have him blacklisted. Why didn't he contact someone in power and get some help? If he was giving China a good reputation then you would think the CCP would have helped him. But the CCP isn't very rational either I guess. They seem to relish playing the role of a bad guy. lol. Usually if you stay out of politics you are fine in China. I am still surprised that the CCP didn't do more for him since he was pro-China before.

Why would he make more money spouting anti-China rhetoric? Lots of media are already anti-China, so isn't that market saturated?

Wouldn't his wife become a fugitive too and be punished by the CCP too? No woman wants to become a traitor to their country. Asian women are conformist and do not go against their own culture usually. Does "beer girl" mean she was a bartender or a Hooters girl? lol

How come he didn't just move to Hong Kong or Taiwan to continue doing his videos? Why the USA?

Thanks for the small pack of useful information, @yick, and congratulations for having a stable, well paid job in a country you love living in. It is always preferable to get first-hand wisdom from someone who has lived in the place for years, instead of agenda-driven or "just landed" bloggers.

I think Ji Xinping's "dirigisme" is not always bad news from China. They have their own credit disasters and they are battling with gigantic socio-economic problems, like the lack of safe jobs and the fast demographic "Japanification". Yet, the "good" infrastructure spending is there and will be there for the next few decades. I like the fact that China is one of the few countries really thinking strategically, suffering now to prepare the next boom cycle: investment in state of the art nuclear power, quantum computing and AI are no joke, especially considering China still produces more STEM PhDs than US and Russia combined (and many US PhDs are Chinese nationals anyway).

China is definitely there to stay. I'd better visit soon. :)

Tsar won't medicate because he thinks he is embraced by extraordinary life experiences that make him a spiritually-elevated person. He cannot come down to the reality that those voices and visions are just a product of his mental condition, and something that is stopping him from living his life to the fullest.

Until that realization dawns on him, he will never change. Yes, he is mostly functional in his routine of travelling, living in cheap places and asking his parents for money when his disability allowance is not sufficient. But that, to me, is not life. It's a constant form of escaping from prison, where the prison is exclusively in his mind and there's no escape without awareness. So far, he has demonstrated no awareness of his problems.

    Update:

Tsar told Lucas that he needs to be unbanned so he can check his PMs and reply to them. So I've unbanned him for now. If you need to contact him via PM, you can do so now. I'll keep him unbanned for about a week. If I can find a way to disable his posting ability in the permissions, I may do just that and leave him here so you can PM him anytime you want.

Just leave him unbanned unless he posts unacceptable things again. He has that other account and can always create new accounts if he really wanted to cause trouble. I think he is done with this forum.

As fas as I understood from Tsar, he is receiving from somewhere around Euro 1000,- monthly which is his regular passive income.

He also told me that he is US citizen, but has dual nationality and a valid EU-Italy passport, so he can travel around in Eastern Europe without any visa-related issues and stay long-term in any place where Euro 1000,- /monthly is enough for all daily needs.

I think he was for a while in Romania (or Bulgaria?) where Euro 1000,- is surely OK for a moderate life-style as a single person (rent a simple room, food, utilities...)

@Winston Are you some kind of dictator? I thought this was a free speech forum for truth seekers? And please unban Dan also. He's a valued contributor and he made some very good points on his live stream on election day in California. He was livestreaming himself at the voting machine explaining each one of his votes. He explained why the previous DA of Los Angeles caused more homelessness and crime and explained that a vote for Gascon is a vote for more crime in LA.
