How to download YouTube videos in video or audio formats

I have a cheap phone plan where I just get a bit of internet every month. I have internet at work and home.

I had some videos I was listening to. before I left for work, I would load them on the phone, skipping forward every few seconds, then pause it before the final ad came on. When I got in the car, I could put on headphones, back the video up, and play it.

Then just within the past few weeks, that stopped working. The only thing I have found on this is a similar complaint on a forum online. Does anyone know why this stopped working? Is there something I can do to my phone? I don't need to download videos if my phone can just remember it.
