Earning an income online
I have decided to try to create a website and monetize it with some ad-revenue program (most likely Adsense, maybe something better paying if available). Many discussion threads have mentioned that a successful website has the potential to provide income to support a lifestyle abroad. Internet-generated income does seem to be one of the ways of financial independence in a time of unstable, underpaid employment (and structural unemployment).
I could use some suggestions relating to what web design and forum design program I should use. I have never had a web design course so I would be a beginner. I think I could self-learn and follow free guides on the internet if available. I think something relatively easy and simple that provides a decent website would be good.
I think godaddy would be a suitable website host because it would be a development-stage website.

A) Don't use godaddy as a host - Use something like hostgator instead. You can still register your domain with godaddy, just don't bother with their hosting plans. They suck. B) Good Luck. Do plan to spend at least one year full time with your website before deciding that you've at least given things an honest try.

If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.
Google's updates in the last couple of years have pretty much destroyed amateurs' chances of doing well at this game.
If Winston hadn't go lazy he would have quit GoDaddy ages ago. He'd be making 25%+ more a month if he ditched it. God knows it's hard to use HA in Thailand, so goodness knows how many lurkers can't see the site.

I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

Disappointing but pretty much what I suspected.xiongmao wrote:If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.

What is so difficult about using HA in Thailand? I use it from several different locales and haven't had a bit of trouble.xiongmao wrote:If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.

Why would quitting one host give him a 25%+ more?xiongmao wrote:If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.

Yes, the conventional SEO to get traffic via search engines and then make money from paid advertising route has probably expired for most start-ups, and perhaps this is a good thing as it wasn't adding much value to the world. A better idea might be to sell some actual valuable product and get traffic via links from related established sites on the grounds that linking to your site added value to their sites.xiongmao wrote:Google's updates in the last couple of years have pretty much destroyed amateurs' chances of doing well at this game.

Yes you're right. The problem with Godaddy is that they place your site on a server with thousands of other sites, which slows things down since you are on a shared space. They try to cram as many sites on a server as possible, to save money.rudder wrote: A) Don't use godaddy as a host - Use something like hostgator instead. Godaddy uses all their millions to sponsor Nascar racing instead of investing in better servers or more servers. In other words, they prefer to invest in advertising rather than raising the quality of their systems. That's why their quality has suffered.
This is why this site loads more slowly than others, which probably has hurt our SEO and traffic. My friend explained it to me. I started a topic about it here, and quoted him:

It'd be a pain in the ass to move to a different webhost. So right now, I'm looking at different options with Godaddy to upgrade my server to a faster and better one. They have several options but it is very confusing to try to figure it all out. So I'm going to call them today to talk to them about it.
