I agree. It's so easy to be a consumer, but hard to be a creator or producer. Every body want their thing now! now! now! but it takes time and dedication to create something amazing.
With mobile phones, the imbalance between devices designed for consumption and production (e.g. PCs) and devices designed for consumption only (smartphones) has never been so high. Teenage twerking in front of their phone cameras might consider themselves "contents producers", yet they're still floating in the same pool as those who watch them and pay them, a pretty penny at times.

I know history gave us a few time windows where game consoles were more popular than home computers. Yet, whoever bought themselves an Apple II, a BBC Micro, a Commodore VIC-20 or 64, or a Commodore Amiga or a PC with Windows, at some point ended up learning a programming language (e.g. BASIC, 6502 assembly etc.) and often kickstarting their career as software producers.

A big slice of those people were bedroom programmers, kids whose passion for IT went way beyond making money. It was more about creating something cool, something others could enjoy not just as a functional product, but also as art. Electronic art.

Some of you might be acquainted with "the demoscene", a dense community of bedroom programmers capable of squeezing the audio-visual and computing power of their chosen system to its absolute kernel. Many of these kids did progress on to standard IT careers. Many did not.

They remain a testament that, once upon a time, software could be produced for pure fun or aesthetical fulfilment.

One the world's most famous "demos" of my time. On a Commodore Amiga.

The only people who should have a "passion" beyond making money are the geniuses in the field. For the rest of us, money should be the only thing.

When I first studied Computer Science 101 at university in 2005, I loved it. I loved going home and reading the book and doing the programming exercises. I literally thought that programming was the most amazing thing at the time. The fact that you could build anything with a computer. And I could do it in the comfort of my own home without having to deal with annoying people or a team. I loved reading manuals, documentation, and building programs in my free time. I made regular contributions to Stack Overflow and read developer forums.

Now at 38, I don't give a shit anymore. I see now what I should have saw in 2005. That it's all a game. Zuckerberg gamed the system. Bezos gamed the system. The guy who created PornHub gamed the system.

I wish when I first started that instead of wanting to be a "professional software developer" that I should have known it would be better to be a businessman in tech than a replaceable nerd.

The fact of the matter is, software and tech will exponentially progress at this point. Are there going to be f**k ups? Yes. As we're seeing right now with cybersecurity breaches.

But Hell No will I ever work for a boss from the Gen Z generation. Just shoot me in the head if it ever comes down to that.

It's not too late when your 38.. you can always go into the trades and get a "heavy machine operator certificate" like Yick said before and move your ass to Austrailia like you are talking about and make $300,000 Austrailian dollars driving heavy machinery in the outbacks and hanging out with the boys and date Austrailian women. That is If you can't stand stupid Americ*nts.

IT as a job is overrated because of asshole bosses who wants to undercut IT labor force especially web development, too many Indian IT pros who has decades of experience with 1/10th of the labor cost, constant learning till you die on new frameworks, and continued development of A.I.

Nah I don't want to do labor jobs. Too hard. I'd rather be an English teacher here in Vietnam.

Yeah I agree. Most IT jobs suck unless you're one of those rare motherfuckers that enjoys it.

A good profession is sales. Life insurance sales where you collect annuity from every sale.

Software sales is good.

The thing about sales is that you have to have a natural charisma and be naturally good with people to do it.

I love the freedom I have in Asia. I laugh every time I see something bad happen on the news in America. It's so funny. Incel shooter? LOL. Serial Killer? LOL. Normies who are surgeons and dentists going crazy and killing their wives? LOL

My second site is starting to pick up traffic so hopefully I'll have another $5/day site. If I could just boost both sites to $10/day each then that's $600/month.

@Winston Why are Americans so close minded to not think about other countries. They think the US is the center of the world.

You know what's funny. How f***ing stupid simple it is to live out here in SE Asia. Got $600/month? You can live on that here. Yeah, it's basic.

Got $1000/month. You're set.

Suit yourself.

Vietnam sounds like a pleasant country to live. Everybody seems civil and vietnamese food is way better than Ameri-Frankenstein's asshole of a food.

You know if you become experienced enough then you can teach english in Saudi Arabia which can give you very high salary(not taxed).
However, no alcohol, and their women is pretty much harem(forbidden). You can teach in Saudi for couple of years and move back to Vietnam
and enjoy very high living standard.

I also think to start making money online and move to Asia somewhere. Came across services which help people with the paper assignments, like this one https://academized.com/ for example. Anyone worked for a similar niche? How was your experience? Curious if you can make a decent living with this kind of job

Doing money online is not that hard but what u need is just to find a niche where u can do it easily. Me for example do it with cash backs programs I found at different e-stores. I like this app 신용카드 현금화 where my cash accumulates so u can try!
