As with most advice, there's one thing to remember : It's not just the advice that matters. It's how you apply it. Some people go too far. For example, not showing weakness is a good tendency to have in general. You can't be spilling your emotions all over the place like a girl. Everyone knows they're there, there's no need for a man to be showing them always. But by the same token, there are times when it's best to show them, even if it means going to a woman to do it. The same with aggression and competition. It's good to be rough with each other but sometimes you need to lay off and give someone a break and tone it down.

Historically it turns out that prostitution is a necessary part of the alternative to slutification, and slutification is worse than prostitution in causing the pathologies you mention and a thousand others. This is why all successful societies had prostitution. There is a down side to everything, but prostitution is the least worst option.

It's hard to totally do away with prostitution unless a society is uber-totalitarian. But there have been successful societies that outlawed prostitution. The US used to have a successful society and in plenty of places, prostitution was outlawed.
