In Austin I was at Barton Springs reading a book and someone tells me these young girls thought I was an FBI agent working undercover at the local swimming pool. Its funny but also it made me think - how many people are reading books these days outside of a book store? Cause it is at a point where a guy reading a book or writing in a journal is an oddity.
It also seems intellectual curiosity is a rarity these days. Despite America's "cultural diversity" how many people want to know something about foreigners? Cause I see that individuals are curious about other cultures but the tribe is only interested in their own. The only reason I ever see a Chinese person interacting with an Arab person is for business. I never see white people intermingling with Asians or black people interacting with even African people. People have no curiosity even about the people at other tables let alone other countries.
I read books because I feel suffocated sexually, emotionally but yeah even intellectually I feel suffocated. At work when nothing is going on I read a lot whereas most of my co-workers are distracted by their phones. In fact, most people are on their phones it seems to not have to think about the world around them. This makes me withdraw even more into introversion because I no longer relate to people and just have to stick with what works.
Do you feel intellectually suffocated?

I thought members of this forum are only interested in women, race, and conspiracy theories. Intellectual curiosity? That's so antiquated. We live in an idiocracy, reading is for fags.

But the OP is right, less than half of the population has ever applied for a passport. Guys will chase after anything that's hot though.

"Reading is for fags" is a line from the movie Idiocracy. Watch it.travelsouth wrote:You read this forum you faggot.fschmidt wrote:IWe live in an idiocracy, reading is for fags.

Temprano26: Hell yeah, I feel that way. Not to go on a big rant- but have you noticed that any long story (or one with multiple aspects) is more or less disregarded? Whether it's talking, reading, movies- anything. Whenever you tell someone a long story, they just figure it's not true & is open to guess-work. As if their guess is just as good as whatever the situation was, even if it's not the same as what actually happened.
