Yes, the ideal American life usually includes a dog, but I doubt it happens only in the USA. I have friends in different countries. Almost all of them have dogs.

I don't have a dog but I have been thinking about getting one eventually. There are psychological benefits to having a dog. I would only get a dog that is well trained, doesn't bark much and does not shed a lot of fur.

I had a dog and I know that dogs are really best friends. Currently, I don't have any pets, but I'm considering getting a cat. I think a cat would be a better choice taking into account my current job and the amount of free time I have.
