Even down to earth women in America use automated cliches

Post by MattHanson1990 »

Wow, I told one of my good female friends I had a crush on a few years back that I'm just giving up since everything is rigged against me, and guess what she said. "Think positive". WTF? Even the rare down to earth women in America pass down these stupid cliches as advice, which tells me that even decent women in America aren't exactly like foreign women.

giving up since everything is rigged against me
But you're too extreme, what else can one reply to that?

1)Too much of one thing defeats the purpose.
2)Everybody is full of it. What's your hypocrisy?

Cliches are a useless pat on the back. Positive thinking can only help you if you are taking positive action. Funny how few people will follow up their useless advice. Advice from women who have no frigging clue what you are up against is especially annoying. Success often depends on having friends who will take real action on your behalf- not just words.

Not only I was told to "think positive", but i was told other automated cliches such as "you need confidence", "you'll find someone", "the right person will come when you least expect it", etc.

Cliche'd nostrums like that are mildly toxic, you did right to reject them.

You have a right to vent, but generally that's best done here on HA, rather than in RL. Average schmoes don't know what to say.

I remember when I my life was going to hell, and a friend told me, "hang in there".

He thought he was helping, but God it irritated me.

Get it out of your system... let her go... deep breath... make a plan.
"Well actually, she's not REALLY my daughter. But she does like to call me Daddy... at certain moments..."

It could be worse. If it's a typical Anglosphere woman, she'll feel sorry for you and try to play match-maker, finding the ideal woman for you in her eyes.

This invariably means her friend will be fat, unattractive, obnoxious, single-mother, unfeminine or a complete mismatch personality-wise.

Possibly all of the above.

I wouldn't vent to anyone outside of these forums either. People truly have no idea how to react to these 'controversial' theories, so we have to be self-sufficient and live a life of integrity.
