Crazy American Diets
Crazy American Diets
Okay what the hell.
All the Americans are obsessed with health, yet they are all fat. They keep searching for the answer as if it were some grand mystery: books, videos, bla bla bla.
Hello? There is a place called Asia where everyone is thin. Do what works. Shut up. Do what works.
Rice, kimchi, green tea, small amount of fish or meat, done. In Korea it is available on every street corner, fast, cheap, good!
The problem is a bunch of idiots fighting their environment. Look you go out your door and you are not going to find a $1 noodle stand, or a bowl of rice with veggies, or a kimbap roll. You go out your door and are assaulted by fast food, QFC is 80% toxic junk food, and a bunch of pricey joints that don't serve basic solid foods you can build a life on (some weird delicacy w mayo on top for $100). Massive portions beyond comprehension. Massive ultra concentrated sweet deserts, f**k how can anyone eat deserts with that much sugar holy shit. In the office they bring in donuts, why not fruit? In the office kitchen they have cheese sticks, toxic QFC chemical yogurt snacks, chips, pop, slim jims! Holy shit!
You are never going to be a natural size living in that environment like that. Err unless you totally cut yourself off and live isolated in your own home cooked food world (which almost nobody has the smarts or discipline to do). And so the stupid fad diets come about...offering an unnatural solution to the problem of an unnatural life.
Fix the environment. This is all related to corporatism and the obsession with profits. Why would you want to provide the people with a simple healthy meal like a $1 rice bowl w tofu, there are no profits in that! So your environment won't get fixed and so your f***ed.
You have to isolate yourself from the entire food system and culture (impossible), or better yet move to Seoul. Eat rice, eat kimchi, eat three times a day at set intervals, eat slow, don't rush or think of work while eating, drink a lot of tea, never eat after 6pm, walk around and never sit after eating. American taste buds are so f***ed it will take years to adapt to normal food, be prepared for this adaptation to be difficult but see it thru!
"America, f**k yeah!"

LOL true.
But the entire environment is toxic. Your thyroid gland helps regulate your weight, and once that gets f***ed up, you're through. A lot of these weight problems aren't completely the faults of citizens.
The chemicals in water, appliances, electrical transmission(TV, outlets, electronics), AIR, junk food, HEALTHY food, medical testing machines and kitchenware IMO are to blame. For example, some healthy food is actually kept for day/weeks/months before it is even placed to sell. The little nutrition in it goes before we take a bite in some cases. And you know, fluoride, chlorine and all that other body enhancing, good stuff in our water. And MUCH more.
Many countries don't HAVE all those messing up your body. They're too poor(and maybe, they CARE about their citizens?)
When your some of your body's parts, including the thyroid are up to speed, you can eat mad junk food and not worry about your weight at all. Your overall health though is another story.

Good post and you hit it on the nail: "Massive portions beyond comprehension"
I took a Japanese woman out to dinner once and she told me American food places serve people too much food. She could only eat a little bit of what she ordered and then took the rest home for left overs.
And you're right again about the office food... I have been in many offices and they have donuts, crap pizza, cheap candy, and coffee. For lunch these people then walk to the nearest fast food place and eat there everyday not even thinking about the poor quality of the meat or low end artificial ingredients they use. I'm mean S**** you're not support to eat that stuff everyday anyway! More like once a week as a treat and the other days filled with home cooked food. Hell, do people even pack a LUNCH anymore these days?
It's really sad because you can see it takes it toll, these people look so old and out of shape..... And they don't care at all so as long as they get their paycheck.
Edit: Speaking of lunch, back in the 20's through the 70's men generally carried a bag lunch to work that consisted of a piece of fruit, a sandwich, a thermostat with some type of drink and a few cookies or slice of pie. This was usually put together by the wife/mother and that was that...
Today women go to work so they no longer cook for their husbands (or their kids), so now men, women and children have to rely on fast food joints and restaurants to feed them.
What Americans fail to realize, however, is that restaurant owners are in the business to make a PROFIT so that means they are going to side on the cheapest meat and ingredients they can find. They have no concern for your health and there is nothing illegal about serving you a meal that over time will cause you a heart attack.
In fact, companies now encourage you to eat to the point where it puts you in the hospital: http://www.heartattackgrill.com/

What I do is if I HAve to pig out, I go to a Chinese buffet and eat all their chicken dishes and leave the complex carbs off of my plate.
Or I go to a PUerto Rican or a Dominican spot where their food is more natural. Not entirely healthy, but in comparison to corp[-se] food, it rocks.
I evade Mickey D's. I figured for the same price I could eat "comida tipica hispana o latina".

Another aspect of the American office food culture that I had to contend with for many years until I finally left the US: peer pressure to join your fat-ass colleagues at the fast food joints every damn day. I saw how unhealthy those people were and I would only occasionally join them, as in once per month. I'd bring in my own breakfast and my own lunch in a lunchbag every day and snack on veggies and fruit in the morning, eat a sandwich and juice in the afternoon, and I also never got a post-lunch crash. The other guys were ALWAYS hanging out, "developing their office relationship" and then would come back from lunch and go on and on about how this or that fast food joint was SOOOO much better than some other one. They came to hate me and not trust me, because I wouldn't go eat fast food with them, and it's not like you can bring your own lunch into restaurants! The fact that I was totally in shape and did martial arts just made the matter worse. Instead of taking clues, hints, ideas, etc from me, they just mocked me and treated me like some sort of pariah. Americans are pretty much the worst, honestly. You're not allowed to be different or think different (my moniker) or you're an instant outcast.

One other thing, I'm SO TIRED of American people complaining about health care when the majority of American people don't even TRY to take care of their own health.
The amount of young/old people who smoke today is ridiculous! All the drinking, drugs, and staying up late in the night not getting any sleep.
Then you add on the bad food and lack of exercise and they have the nerve to complain about the fact that they can't afford health care.
People who are not willing to take care of their own body don't even deserve to complain about health care.

All of this is SPOT ON! It should be posted as "Sticky" on top!
I can only add that I try to eat healthier - go to Chinese places that are not too cheap, I stopped eating noodles and french fries (by the way, French fries taste and smell better than chocolate in France! I Swear!). I eat more salads etc. But it is tough because there isn't much choice! McDonalds is on every corner or Wendys - which is a total poison!
Something I noticed, including myself - almost ALL immigrants gain weight upon relocation to the U.S. I know one guy from Russia who is a basketball player, almost at professional level. He moved to the U.S. one year ago, he is playing basketball 3 times a week for 2 hours straight. Well, he gained 25 pounds in 1 year!!! He got a huge belly now, although he started to workout and eat less, he struggling to lose it. He said it never happened to him in Russia, even when he was eating a lot during holidays. Yep, it's just a bad joke we are all living in here. By the way, have you guys heard of Chicken Tax? I think you would love to read about it, here is a quote from Wikipedia:
"Dutch accused the U.S. of dumping chickens at prices below cost of production.[10] The French government banned U.S. chicken and raised concerns that hormones could affect male virility.[10] German farmers' associations accused U.S. poultrymen of artificially fattening chicken with arsenic.[10] In fact, U.S. chicken farmers, with Food and Drug Administration approval, had treated chicken feed with antimony, arsenic compounds, or estrogen hormones to stimulate growth"

Go to the nearest international AIRPORT
Take a look at the people. There will be 2 types of modern man.
Well dressed, healthy and beautiful people vs sloppy, lethargic, ill looking people.
Know what the difference is?
One group is Americans/Canadians. The others are European tourists.
BIG F'ing difference
That's the result of eating tainted food!

@odbo/LinuxOnly,
You're right, man. Before one opens their mouth, you can tell the distinction between American and Canadian people from the jumpstart.

Thankfully I live in a Vietnamese area and there are little restaurants that serve rice plates for around $5 or $6. One restaurant I go to almost everyday for the spinach soup, little salad and delicious rice plate all for a little over $5. A perk is that by going so often the cute servers became friendly as not many non-vietnamese go to these places. It's exoticness adds to it.
