An Oreo???
Hey everyone here at HA, I'm a new poster at this site and I must say I do enjoy it and agree with what the site is promoting.
I just felt like venting off some steam, and its partially related to AWs but also the black community in the US in general.
I, myself am a young black man currently in college with a year left before I actually graduate. I'm very excited and proud of myself to be able to get to this point of course.
However, one thing that just annoys the flying f**k out of me, are people of my ethnicity who enjoy talking shit on me because I don't "act black".
I don't walk around in public sagging my pants down like a convict, I don't go blasting shitty hip-hop, don't get me wrong, I do love hip-hop but not the bullshit that is on the air. I listen to electronic music that is of the relaxed variety, I like to follow politics, I love history, I take interest in world events, hell I even like soccer. Yet all of these things, are not considered, "black". If these things including being knowledgeable on many topics or issues, holding an intelligent conversation, articulating one's vocabulary, and learning multiple languages(currently coming close to intermediate level on Turkish), is "acting white". Then so be it, because if "acting black" is equal to being an ignorant "hip-pop" driven douchebag who doesn't know how to dress themselves, then I'll gladly leave the community. Plus being an atheist makes it even more enjoyable for me as well.
Alas, when it comes to women here in the states and even in some nations in Europe(France being a great example), the whole "thug" culture in promotion of anti-intellectualism just seems to make these AWs and even FWs vaginas, get moist like a toilette. It's frustrating to say the least, and as much as I know folks here dislike Obama(and I admit he isn't perfect), he is an inspiration for me at least in wanting to be an educated black man that doesn't "act black".
Ahh that felt better...thanks everyone, really enjoy the forum.

I'll continue to lurk around and comment sometimes. On a side-note, I was apart of this documentary crew that went to Mexico to some research on Afro-Mexicans and their history. Learnt a ton, and even met an Afro-Mexicana, absolutely beautiful, spoke excellent English and was very intelligent, we're even staying in contact through Google+ and email. It's amazing how just going on a 2 and half hour flight(from Houston here) South, and you meet women who are a complete 180 from what one experiences here in the US.

Welcome to the forum, dream. A lot of the things you mentioned in your post is not very "PC" in the Black community. In fact, if anyone but a black person wrote what you just wrote, they would be accused of outright racism and bigotry. Growing up in a poor urban community in Queens, NY, I saw many of the things you complained about in your post. The smart Black kids I saw in school (whether it was grade school or high school) were always ostracized by the other Blacks and often teased and beat up for "acting white."dreamingawake09 wrote:Hey everyone here at HA, I'm a new poster at this site and I must say I do enjoy it and agree with what the site is promoting.

This exact mentality is why I believe Asians do much better in life than most Blacks growing up in America. Hispanics are similar to Blacks in that intellectualism is very much discouraged and actually looked-down-upon, while being "cool" and male machismo is very much encouraged in the Latin community.

Re: An Oreo???
Thanks zboy! Yeah I was teased and even beat up once by some black guys back in middle school for being smart and not "acting black". It really pissed me off and as a result very few of my actual friends are black. Most of my friends are actually Latin, those are the ones in colleges and are actually doing something with their lives. That and how black women in the US act so damn immature, childish, and overall ghetto, I don't even date them.zboy1 wrote:Welcome to the forum, dream. It's a shame how a community views knowledge and intelligence in such an ignorant manner, along with dick-riding jesus and the lawd all of the time. There is no such thing as the black community rising up and overcoming. Never will that shit happen. So f**k em.
Yeah, I know how you feel. One of my problems is I don't act "white" enough sometimes.

Welcome to the forums, I'm also a black male currently in college. I'll be graduating by the Spring of 2014. The thing that's different for me is that I prefer long distance running over soccer.dreamingawake09 wrote:Hey everyone here at HA, I'm a new poster at this site and I must say I do enjoy it and agree with what the site is promoting.

Welcome to the forum. For future forum members: welcome! I am also a black male. If I knew you in real life, we would be friends. The best option for men of all races would be to go foreign. In my opinion, the best continents for me to find women are Africa, Asia, and Europe.dreamingawake09 wrote:Hey everyone here at HA, I'm a new poster at this site and I must say I do enjoy it and agree with what the site is promoting.

There aren't many attractive women (inside and outside) in America. A man wants a physically attractive woman with attractive personality traits. American women usually don't have that combination.
Ever since I found Winston's website and read the information on there, my life has been much easier and I've been a MUCH more happier person!
No matter how good she looks, some other guy is sick and tired of putting up with her crap. ~Author Unknown (Quote about women)

Thanks to all the great responses from the post. Quite nice as well to see young black college students on here too, its quite interesting how this happens.
Billy: Çok iyiyim teşekürler!! I understood some of your Turkish post. I started learning it when I discovered my university was actually offering it as a course. Foreign language is also a requirement for my degree, so I told myself, why not try something new and more challenging than Spanish?
I really do hope to go to Turkey soon, possibly teach English there as there are jobs for that. Plus I love Turkish women and the food and football culture there! Yaşa Fenebahçe!

I've never been an oreo (I am mixed/light though), but I can relate to having "different" interests. I have an intimidating stature so while I don't dress thuggishly my demeanor shows that I could "take it there" if provoked. When people get a glimpse of what I'm about they don't see me as black anymore (although physically yes). I have strong views on blackness and where we come from as a people, but I'm not militant about it and don't beat people over the head with it. Like they say watch out for the least expected. I know some so-called oreo dudes who will school the shit out of some self proclaimed pro-black pan-africanists.
Anyway, I was always a smart kid and rarely did I wear it on my sleeve. Quiet confidence. Luckily when I was in high school the most popular guys just happened to be really smart too. It was a small school and we had no teams so no jocks. Popularity was based solely on coolness. Mr. Popular from back then graduates from law school in just a couple of weeks. Back on topic, I'm energized when I'm around fellow black people who see things differently, but I'm also energized when I'm taking in different cultures.
I'm really with you on the Jesus bit. Around here, Islam is major, but either way I worry about finding a mate because I KNOW I'm not gonna share those beliefs.
