Especially in the northern states such as Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana, Alaska, Illinois, New York, Maine, and similar location states.

At wedding receptions, especially in the northern USA it appears, only couples and cliques have any part of the fun that a wedding reception is supposed to be. Singles get alienated, excluded from the party, and treated like dirt. For singles it appears, a wedding reception, especially the dancing part, is actually more like being in an after-school detention than being at a wedding reception.

Those who think it's the guys' job to ask the ladies to dance are totally wrong. At nightclubs, he who asks her if she'd like to dance with him simply gets thrown out of the club. But at wedding receptions, he who asks her if she'd like to dance with him gets beaten, bludgeoned, glassware broken and stabbed into him, it can get really ugly. Usually it may be alcohol related, but in some cases, it is bitter hatred related. In case anyone was curious, in fact, as of May 2014, the Top 10 drunkest states in America were; New Hampshire, Washington DC, Delaware, Nevada, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Alaska, Montana, Vermont, and South Dakota. Even though Illinois is not among those states, I can bet that single people, especially single guys, would have a way far worse time at an Illinois, especially a Chicagoland, wedding reception than they ever would at a New Hampshire wedding reception. The reason; Illinois is a dry and barren social desert. There is practically no love amongst neighbors, people including myself are often seemingly alienated by most of their own families, henceforth, any fights at Illinois wedding receptions, especially those involving single guys that just wanted to have fun, are most likely caused by bitter hatred directed towards the single person from other family members.

Even though I personally have never experienced it, I have heard tales before of wedding receptions in which the bride or groom were tossed into the cake, receptions where there were such vicious fights and rages of hatred that certain family members totally ceased to have anything to do with each other. Literally where trust was shattered, feelings hurt beyond repair, where the reception only left broad rifts within entire families.

I'm not going to argue with what you have observed.

I am familiar with some drinking at weddings also, without a bad result. And I always urge young men to get themselves invited to weddings. A great way to meet single bridesmaids, dressed to impress.

Maybe the answer is to wangle an invitation to a wedding involving attractive people, whom you generally like, expressly to meet bridesmaids and guests, and have a good time. And to NOT allow one's self to be hornswoggled into reluctantly attending a wedding involving toxic relatives or low-class alcoholic types.
