Re: Powerpuff Girls – 312-b Equal Fights -An episode on Femi
Powerpuff Girls is an obvious 'girl power' cartoon, part of a trend to show girls in powerful roles, and not men. Kim Possible is another example. I remember when I was younger, feminists complaining about men being the strong, leading characters on children's TV shows. I don't have a problem with that. I think it is unhealthy to have all action hero girls, with wimpy boys.
Be that as it may, I enjoyed this episode. What clever satire. They had a man-hating feminist thief rejecting male Benjamins in favor of Susan B. Anthony dollars, who corrupted the Powerpuff Girls by turning them into man-hating feminists. They let her go so all the villians wouldn't be male. When confronted, the Powerpuff Girls realized girls weren't being treated unfairly, and captured the bad woman.
I am glad that it has gotten to the point where cartoons will make fun of feminism like this. Maybe girls who watch this will grow up to dismiss and laugh at man-hating feminism in college instead of joining in.
