The 23 strangest habits you’ll pick up after living in......

Post by Halwick »

Ran across this item and thought it was amusing and interesting:

This fellow lived in 23 different countries and here are some of the "strangest" habits he picked up.

As you all lived abroad, I'm curious what customs have you found interesting and "strange"?
Which customs did you like and feel should all adopt?

Thanks,

Negative habits I've picked up since being in China:

1) Spitting a lot

2) Picking my nose in public (which I never used to do in public, back in the States).

3) Cutting in Ques and not apologizing for bumping into someone in a crowded subway.

The Chinese have apparently rubbed-off some of their most vile traits onto me, LOL! Who would win the most rude contest in the world: New Yorkers, "Ugly Americans" overseas, The French, Australians in Asia or Mainland Chinese? I would say it would be a close five-way tie. Hahaha...

They did that in Hong Kong and Singapore as well. It took some getting used to. I learned to never leave much space in between myself and the person in front of me as any space will be filled by someone. People cut without even thinking about it. They also like to get in your "space". The older they are, the more likely they will do it too. People didn't bump into me much and when they did, I immediately looked at them. They would usually back up and say "sorry". My friend who lives in Singapore says I'm much too polite. He's an Asian American and he's a flat out dick to the local people when they get in his way or inconvenience him in any way. He's from New York and has that Elitist mentality that I speak of in many Expats....
